Default Roll Bar Padding

I have to get some padding for my roll cage. The NHRA rule book says "Roll bar must be padded anywhere driver's helmet may contact it while in driving position. Adequate padding must have minimum 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) compression or meet SFI Spec 45.1".

I can get the hard SFI 45.1 type padding, but this seems like it will hurt my head if I bump against it and I am not wearing my helmet. I can also get the standard "Tuffcote" padding that Jegs sells that seems softer to the touch and gives a little more, but does it have 1/4 compression? What exactly does 1/4 compression mean? Does it have to be 1/4 inch thick or (what I think it means) when compressed, it has to still be 1/4" thick?

What are you guys using that is NHRA legal and OK in a semi-daily driver?

Thanks!
Erick

Summit Racing. Part Number KIR-99001. It is inexpensive and NHRA legal. I slip them on at the track and remove them before I leave.

I want to keep it on when I drive around, too. I'm pretty tall so my head can come into contact with the bars... Just want to make sure I get the safest of the two for both the track and the street.

You might want to read this article. Sorry it's from the Wayback machine, but it's worth a read.

I'm looking for some in white. I saw a picture of one with white but have never seen it for sale anywhere. Any Ideas?

That one does not appear to be SFI. KIR-99011 is, but costs more.

The rule says SFI 45.1 OR 1/4" compressability. I believe the cheap summit kind meets that if you have the thick side toward the driver. That is what I just did mine with - haven't had it to tech yet though. I hope it passes, cause I don't wanna redo it!

Interesting. I dropped NHRA membership when I hung up the gloves, but it is looking like I really ought to get a rule book ...
