Default front crash bar removal....???

so im really considering taking the front crash bar out of my 2000 ss. But i keep hearing people say that the bumper will sag and blah blah blah dont do it. well i've googled and looked on tech. cant seem to find any pics of camaros without a crash bar.

will the bumper really sag as dramatically as people are making it sound?
not wanting to drop a few hundred on the burk hart support either. sadly i dont have a garage to keep her in and texas heat is full of fail

Iv had mine off for a few months and its not like im hearing from people so far. It does sag just a little and one side is a little worse than the other but its not bad. I love the weight reduction and is worth it imo. Im actually thing about getting the midwest bumper support its alot cheaper than the burkhart. I also have the rear bumper support out as well as front.

You could probably make you own supports that weight hardly anything to keep the bumper cover from sagging and flopping around.

you mind getting a few pics for me? really want to see if the sagging is noticeable at all.

yeah ive considered a few small pieces of aluminum or something just to keep some for. but the problem is the guy that helps me out doesnt have an aluminum welder

Burkhart makes one that not only weighs less, it keeps the shape and IMO probably stronger then what the factory had. Look for some used.

The sag isnt that bad dude. The only way I can tell is to get on my knees and look at the sides or I can tell by running my hands on the edge of the hood and bumper. I can feel its not at the same height.
Only way to keep it supported is to make a tube support like the burkhart or mwc. Theres no way metal strips would lift up the sag on my bumper.

You can also take it out, drill it full of holes and put it back on. Saves weight and maitains integrety. This is what I did, no one even notices.

But turning it in to Swiss cheese doesn't seem like it'd save very much weight

Bingo. Find a used one. You can keep your fog lights,lean on your bumper and its easy to put on.

Mine was "OK" for maybe 2 years when it started to pull down on the sides of the headlights. I put some simple alum bars, that weight nothing and its super stiff now.

Ar you talkin bout the aluminum strips or some round bar? Im thinkin bout just getting one from mwc they are like 7lbs and cheaper than the other.

It does and if done right everything is still real sturdy just like oe and most people don't even notice. Sure removing it or replaceing it with one like Mikes would save more. It just depends on your goals. Best of all is this just costs what a decent holesaw kit does...and you can use the holesaw kit else where

It unties the front of the car for guys that like handleing and has no crushability in a accident. The force would go straight to the chassis. It's probally not a big deal for drag guys other than the bumper warping under speed. I'm not a drag guy, I just go to the track to measure my car's acceleration performance after I change ****.

I like what you did with your hood support hinges-thats trick. I would love to get mine as light as you. Any tips on losing weight in regards to the brakes?

Thats what I wa think of doing was welding a tubular piece of metal in key places where the support was. What type of metal didi u use?? And where did u weld it at?

Even thought of doing something similar to burkharts desgin.....

Ultamitley I'm looking to save the most weight with the least cost.seems like removal and a few smAll piece welded in place might be the answer

Supports the bottom.... Which stops it from pulling the rest of the bumper down. I'm sure there Are a few supports where they can't be seen that hold the top
