Default looseing oil pressure on launch

Someone Just PM me and asked if my car did this? I've always forgot to look, and never really scan my car or get vids of it myself. But I few years ago I did take a incar vid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epl38...el_video_title

And sure enogh if you full screen it at right about 3:44 is the best launch you can see the dash. I looks like it drops don a LOT for 1st gear

thats back when the car was maybe getting 1.55s. Now its 1.4 on slicks and DR. It done that like 400 times haha.

How many others have noticed that? I put like 5 3/4 6 qts for its at the full mark. Should I do anything else, I bet 100's of people have that happen too.

mine drops to 25 to 30 psi. we need the trap door for the stock pan or a aftermarket pan to keep the sump wet

i talked to a few buddies that said they drilled holes in a certain spot on their lifter trays and it helped to drain the oil back to the bottom end faster...i have mixed feelings about doing this but thats what a few of them have done

The top end of the LS gets plenty of oil that is for sure. It wont hurt to drill trays but I think the issue will still be present. I dont think the melling pump will suck it dry, But with a killer 60 ft and that pump with the stock pan is where people will see problems like studderin probly even with a stock pump.

Its not oil drian back or limiting to the top end. Its form the pickup.

this winter I need to get my trans freshened, With the BMR K member I can get the oil pan off easy. out the back. I think I'm gona try the improved racing pickup.

Or the moroso pan.

moroso pan will greatly improve this since it won't let oil climb the back of the block. an oil accumulator isn't a bad idea either.

The moroso pan and pickup, the small hole drilled in the lifter trays for drainback, will help the situation.

If I took the ls route again.. I would have a moroso pan built with some kickout's in it for added oil capacity, so that the sump itself was a good bit larger in capacity, and make sure the back of the pan had a baffle across it to keep the oil in the sump some at launch as well.

Moroso can build you a pan anyway you want for a little more money... I know several people that have had them do it for other then ls based engines, no reason they can't od it for an ls as well. There is room next to most of the headers for a couple inches worth of kickout fwiw. headers will be harder to get in... but if you have an aftermarket k member, I can't imagine it to be that big a deal.

The accusump fireball mentioned would be a must as well.. easily plumbed in on the pressure side of the remote oil filter line that's a must with the moroso pan as well fwiw.

i went with the swap pan from moroso with the sloped from the front to the sump, with their matching pick up tube and windage tray.

Dragging the bumper and a vacuum pump set at 15" oil pressure is always good

I'd have them make that pan with a little bigger kickout's on the sides to try to get the capacity up to 7.5 to 8 qts... doesn't seem like alot but that little bit can make a big difference. I bet they would do it for about 50 bucks more then the pan goes for normally... worth it to me.

Their pickup tube with that pan is a must as well..

it already takes 7.5 to fill it. at least thats what I run usually.

and I dont know if that pan will clear a stock style K member, I am running all Burkhart chassis stuff...

I dont really care to have extra oil on the side of the sump. I just need it keep the pickup covered better for to first second at the drag strip

charlie, hows is the rear of that pan? Hows the bellhousing bolt to it?
do you like having the filted re mote mounted?

the bell housing does not bolt to the bottom on the moroso pan. I run a Quick Time bell housing and just use 3/8 bolts to fill on the holes on the block saver plate.

and I love having the filter re mote mounted. also gave my another port for my oil temp gauge. I got the fancy moroso billet filter mount. I'll Grab some pics of my setup as I dont think I posted many pics of the engine bay in my build thread.

I have a standard pressure, HV pump. My oil pressure cold is around 40 at idle, 50's in the burnout box. But I also run a vac pump set at 15".

My block has some oiling modifications, also did some oiling mods on the lifters. My engine builder doesn't miss anything. So I am sure it helps it live after my beatings
