Default opinion on gear swap.

Current setup is carbd 347 w/ th400 and 456's on a 28" tire, planning to swap gears out this winter and set the car up for a healthy dose of n2o (200+) was wanting some input on what size gear to run, I'm torn between 373 and 411. Would like to come thru the traps around 7400/7500. W/ the online calcs it says 411 will come thru at about 152mph, and 373 would be 167 before I run out of gear. Suggestions? I can post this in the n20 section if this isn't the approproate spot.

There are people more exp then me to answer but just curious what type of 28" tall. a Radial or perhaps a Bias Ply?

That may help a good deal. The car sounds like a lot of fun.

28" as in 325/50 now but will have the car set up to run on a 275 later.

Converter slip will play a roll also, best to leave some wiggle room. Apples to oranges comparison between our cars but my car "could do" 135-140 in the 1/4 N/A but on nitrous....105 is topped out lol.... 4% slip NA/22% on the bottle. Just something else to take into account if you havnt thought of it yet

22% slip on the jug is terrible fwiw...

If you're thinking about the 4.10 vs 3.73, I'd try splitting it, try a 3.89/3.90 depending on what rear you have.

Seems to be a happy spot... I tried the 4.10 with my old 402 motor, swapped to 3.73 and it seemed to be a little too much. I had a converter in the car that was about 4% on the top end for slippage with roughly 600 rw with the nitrous on fwiw, and the car was going about 142 to 143 depending on the day/weather/track. 3350 lbs.

If that setup was still together I would have tried getting the converter to about 5% on the top end and loosen it up on the bottom a little, or put the 4.10, or a 3.90 back into it after I had gotten it down to about 3000. That would have probably gotten about as much out of it as I could without adding more power.

Not trying to hi-jack, but mine was set for 1/8th only. 105mph@3500lbs seems to be right on par for similar set ups. I was more concern'd with N/A times then nitrous. FTI said to leave the converter alone since I'll be yanking some weight out of it this winter which will effectively tighten the converter up some

Unfortunately I did some research and cannot find a 3.90 gear to fit w/ a 4 series carrier. So that's why I'm stuck between 373 or 411.

I just looked that up you're right it is only for the 3 series carrier my bad on that.. I wasn't aware that it wasn't an option for both.

In that case I would put the 4.11 in the car and if you have to, you could always put a 29 inch tall tire on if you find the car running out of gear.

Taking weight out will make the converter a little more effecient yes. 105 should be a bottom 10 second car at that speed... I ran 114.7 @ the 1/8th on a 9.51 pass, top end was 143.1 fwiw.

There ya go... who'd have thought to call the gear manufacturer LOL! Good work on that.. now anyone that's looking for the gearset for the 4 series carrier, knows where to go.

You have a 12 bolt I assume with the 4 series right? Just want to confirm we're not talking about wasting time with a factory rear.
