Advice For New Drag Racer
Guys, I got some questions. I'm finally starting to take my trans am to the drag strip in the spring. How exactly do you guys launch your m6's? Do you guys dump the clutch or let out slowly? What determines at what rpm's you should launch at? Also, what determines at what rpm's you should shift at?

i hold it at about 2K rpm's then slip the clutch till i feel it hook then full throttle. Shift at the top of the RPM band without hitting the rev limiter.
Of course i haven't tried it with the new power since im on a stock fried clutch still....

I had a heads/cam nitrous set up with my 6-speed. on my 10.20 pass i side stepped the clutch at 6,100rpm and pinned it to the floor with the nitrous on. it 60fted 1.40 with the wheels up. all depends on your tire and rearend gear. i had a 28x10.50 hoosier slick and a 4.10 gear. if your tryin this on stock 17's with drag radials i personally had to slip the clutch at maybe 3,500 and not put the pedal down all the way in 1st gear. on the nitrous i couldnt even spray till 2nd gear on a 17" rim. car 60fts 1.80 on a 17" BFG drag radial.
I shift my heads/cam ls1 with stock bottom end at 6,800-6,900rpm. the car made power all the way to that, but shifting any higher scares me on a stock motor. i played it safe and kept it under 7 grand. if you post a dyno sheet i'm sure we can help you determine where your car makes power and where it falls off to determine launch rpm and shift points.

Your particular setup will determine how hard you can launch. Most important things being tire, gear ratio, weight transfer, and weight. Ideally you want to get a little bit of tire spin out of the hole to keep the RPM's up.
