Stock grille weighs maybe 1-2 lbs. I'm guessing people do it more for looks.

Good question fuel. I have the billet thing looks like wale teeth for mine. But the real question for drag racing, is once the radiator is moved from the stock position it gets virtually zero airflow. So removing the grill... gives nice big shot of consistant air straight into the radiator.
More than just looks!!

I don't know, the grille on these cars have three scoops on each side that allow airflow. I'm not sure if removing it improves much, I think people do it mostly for looks. The plastic one that they come with is pretty ugly I have to say, the SLP Bowtie/SS grille is my personal favorite.

This is true if everything else forward of the radiator was removed. Stock, all the rad airflow is scooped up under the bumper. Air from the grill goes up and over the rad and just adds to normail airflow in the engine bay.
