Well if you look at it, its boxed. It can't go anywhere unless the lower bracket snaps. Think how a ladder bar holds the rear end in place, very similar. Your reaction was the same as mine when I first installed it and hucked the TA. I was imagining the springs popping out, and the whole rearend spinning and ripping the back of the car off I was really hoping my logic was correct.

With the original setup, right out of the box, the Lakewood is NOT strong enough to handle this job. You need to beef it up, and you need to weld the brackets in. Once I did that, it got a whole lot better.

One thought I had while installing, I think I could actually use a longer lower bar and weld it straight to the chassis in front of the LCA (there is room!). That would give me a longer lower bar, and act more like a true 4 bar setup, but it would have to be a strong bar.

Moving from FL to Vermont... who does this sort of thing?

I dont know of any others. But mine is launching good, just got some bad drivetrain problems. I wish all was high and tight on my car, and I could throw out some accurate results. I'll do what I can. Nearest track is in Canada, 1.5 hours from here... and my car is staying in FL until the salt trucks stop. Gonna be awhile. Peace!

The first gen SSM bars were similar to what you did. You could run them w/o a torque arm, but they would hit pretty hard (like someone else said). It made running a 9" rear end MUCH easier since you didn't have to make a torque arm mount.
