Default When is a glide better then a th350?

I currently have a th350 with 5000 stall and no brake.

I found a good built glide with a brake and 4500 stall converter that has never been installed .

This is going in an 82 s10 with a 347 ls1, 12/1 compression race weight of 2800.

Ford 9" with 4.56 gears, 28x10.5 slicks( may drop back to 4.11's if needed).

Which is better for a race vehicle with this set up? Will the glide lose much on 60 ft?

I think the glide will work nice in your application. low race weight and will also help to hook that lil truck with a high 1st gear.

I'm not a fan on using a glide with lower HP applications BUT.....
Although you're not making a bunch of power with that engine,You're fairly light weight with a low rear gear ratio and a small tire. I would probably use the glide with an 8" converter.

It has a 1.82 first gear so that's a slight plus. Converter is a 4500 but I am not sure yet on diameter . I was thinking the same thing though about staying 8". I'm not interested if it's a 10".

Edit: got the part number off converter and googled it.

School me on the difference between a 8" and 10" converter.

I believe to get 4500+ out of a 10" you loose efficiency up top. 8" is going to run better but it's more track only setup as it will slip more at pt throttle.

If your not going to run a power adder, I would keep the TH350. If you want an idea of what the truck would run with a glide make a pass with your TH350 leaving in 2nd gear. Wont be an exact comparison, but close enough. You will probably loose about 2 tenths in the 1/4, and MPH should be close to the same.

If you plan to run a power adder go with the glide.

Thanks, I'm staying th 350. The 1.82 is the weaker planetary . 1.80 is straight cut but expensive to upgrade to. This was just a stock 1.82, decided to stay with my setup. Thanks guys

The 406 SBC buick regal we run picked up .2 tenths going from the TH350 to the Glide. Went from 11.9x-12.01 to 11.6-11.70ET's in the 1/4. The stall flashes around 4200RPM with it on the Transbrake. It runs the 1.82 1st as well.

Raceweight for our car is 3012lbs w/ no driver and full fuel.
