Manual to TH-350 gear question

Default Manual to TH-350 gear question

My car is a 6-speed, 4.56's and 28" tall slick. If I switch to auto. (Rossler TH-350), do I need to change the gears? The car traps at 6900 and 127 mph.

It would def be set up good for the 1/8 mile. I doubt that you would make the 1/4

I run a TH350 with 28"x10.5" ET drags and 4.10 gears. Also running 126-127mph and my car will bump the 7200 RPM shift light right at the traps. This is with an 8" 5500 stall.

I don't remember the numbers exactly, but with 4.10s when I went to the auto, I was turning about 3 or 400 more rpm.

If you can get a 29 inch tire on the car I wouldn't change anything gear wise. If you can't do that, 4.30 would probably be the best bet.

Unless you spend a good bit of $ on a converter that's going to be very effecient, in that case you "might" make the 1/4 with the 4.56 gearing but it's going to be very close.

You're not planning on any more power later are you? If not, then the 4.30 with a 28, or 29.5 with your 4.56 would work. If there's more power in the future, or a serious weight reduction above and beyond what you have already done, then I would just put a 4.10 in it now, maybe even 3.90 depending on your future plans.

RPM's will be higher do to % converter slip.

This may help;

I run a turbo 350, 29.5 slicks with 4.56 gears and cross the 1/4 mile at 7200 rpms.

I think it's all in the converter.

I had 28x10.5, 4.10, th400, tight 4800 stall, I was going 133 in the 1/4 shifting at 7000 on 150 shot, and 123 NA.
