Default What's needed for a Bulletproof TH-400

Going to have a TH-400 built soon. What does it take to build a bulletproof
400. 1,000 fwhp level.
Thanks George

Call Carl Rossler! He is the best there is and can spec it for exactly what you want. Very nice guy!

I believe I remember Carl telling me that their Terminator 2 TH400 would work well for 1000HP. I believe it was $1395 plus a couple of other parts that he suggested which came out to a total of $2000. That didn't include a bellhousing or putting the VSS in the tailshaft.

Another vote for rossler here. Carl has many patented parts that he makes and installs in his transmissions that aid in the longevity. I am running the T2, after adding the jw ultrabell and vss I think it was around $2300. He said 1000hp wouldn't be a problem. Just call and talk to him, he won't steer you wrong.

Call Jakes, better priced than a Rossler, and just as good.

But it should have at least a 34 element sprag, upgraded lighter than stock drum, billet input shaft, an upgrade from 3 intermediate clutches to 4 clutches and an upgrade from 5 to 6 direct clutches. Other little mods like snap rings and tons of other little mods are what sets each builder apart from one another. A company can just throw in the hard parts I have mentioned and a basic overhaul of everything else and send it to you and you'll never know. The good builders do a bunch of little things, tricks that they have learned from other's and by experience that only building transmissions for a long time can do.

When I got my valve-body for my 4l80e in my last car I got it from Jake and just talking with him for the length I did, I would buy anything I needed transmission wise from him, and his specialty is Turbo 400's along with 4L80e's more recently.

I have a rossler T2 and it has performed fantastic. I got the deep pan and vss and it was right at 1800. I would suggest upgrading to the billet input shaft though. There is a list of what goes in a rossler on his site if your looking to purchase the parts seprately.

Thanks fellows, I'll call Carl tomorrow.
Talk to Lane @ PTC today and he's going to send me a parts list and price.
Anyone use a PTC transmission? I hear there torque converters are top notch.

This might sound weird but I would also consider the distance that you're away from the builder. I got my trans from Rossler but I recently had FTI take a look at the trans because it was going to cost me 200 dollars each way to ship back to Rossler. You might also consider Greg at FTI!

Yeah, shipping been killing me over the years. I would like to find someone close. Where is FTI?

Deland, Florida. Honestly, I would at least give him a call and get a price. He will probably be one of the lowest prices you find. He showed a lot of character when he went through my transmission and when he built my converter.

Thanks George
At that HP level you might be better off with a Glide.

What is needed....
1- money
2- a good builder
3- the understanding that there is a upkeep factor that needs to be followed.

Its a general statement but if you follow them and the builders recommendation. There is no reason why u can't be successful.

I'm telling you call Jake at Jake's Performance he is a sponsor here. He builds some of the best Th400s out there and he is offering 10% off his trannys right now.
