Default 26", 27" or 28" tire

After searching the stickies and the threads on here, I have come to the conclusion (my .02) that Hoosier QTPs are the right type of tire I need for my 3600lb T56 hog to actually get better than 1.80 60' times. I've tried running MT ET street radials at 275/60/15 but I can't get them to work with my stick car for **** at any pressure.

What size QTP would be the best for my set-up?
-approx 400rwhp
-4.11 rear gear Moser 9"
- stock rear springs w/ bilsteins (will be getting adj QA1s this yr.)
- BMR front lowering springs and bilsteins (shitty for this ap I know, It will change to adj. coilovers later this yr)
- Monster clutch lvl3
-running Weld prostars 15/10 with 7.5" backspacing

I was thinking about a 27/11.50/15 in the QTP section........

I actually don't care for my 26" tires, just isn't much sidewall. I plan to go to a 27 or 28 with more gear

I have a 4.30 gear and 28's on mine. They're Hoosier Quick Time Pro DOT 11.50X28-16.

I would agree with you on the 27 inch. The more sidewall the better. I run the 28s with 4.56 and 60ft in the high 1.5s right now. Should be lower but need adjustable shocks.

This! I had a 1.39 60 foot on a 26X10X15 ET Drag. Do not forget the stiff sidewall.

26X10X15S for the win at your power level!

When you get the adjustable shocks with proper suspension, you can run on the 26 inch tire. Presently I am running a hoosier 26.9.15 slick at the track. In the future, I am going with a 26.8.15 slick trying to get more MPH.

I also have run 26.10.15 slick in the past. Point being with the hal shocks and suspension, car will hook.

Thanks N2RACINGLS1's, what tire pressures are the norm for this tire? I see tubes are required so the sidewall will be stiffer. Cold PSI and warm PSI? Track temp variables with this tires PSI as well?

I've ran a 26" and now am running a 28" on a set of weld pro stars. My car on a 150 shot had good luck with both sizes, but I think i'm going to stick with the 28" m/t drag radial.

The video above is when I had the 26X10X15S ET Drag tires on it. I always run between 15.5 to 17 lbs. of air checked before pulling into the burn out box. Track prep is a factor in the amount of air pressure you can run. With the weight of your car and the fact it is a 6 speed go with the stiff sidewall tire and use tubes that way when you get the car transferring weight it keeps the wheels from trying to be mashed in the ground.

I have a video of a 6 speed car and when he leaves the line the tire below the wheel disappeared completely from running low air pressure.

Good luck, looks like you car is running strong!

Thanks Amigo, I appreciate all the help! With 15-17lbs is there even a need to use screws? With that pressure I would imagine there wouldn't be too much tire spin on the rim.

Hitting a tire and trying to move a 3,600 lb car from a dead stop with the side step of the clutch with tubes in the wheels could be bad. One slip of the tires and you face the chance of cutting the tube and an instant flat.

Check out this photo and look at how the wheel is trying to wrinkle the tire and spin it on the rim.

By the way I watched your video from MIR that is some tract for sure. I ran good there when we came up but the air was not that great hopefully next time we make the trip we can grab some of that good negative DA.

I would just screw both sides of the rims and call it a day. You can buy the screws that come with a template from jegs.

Cool, Nice photo N2! Yeah MIR is a nice track. I enjoyed the times I spent there.

Thanks Eric, I'll look into Jegs for the template.

I don't know why you'd want to carry extra tire down the track if you don't need the traction.
A nice 26" DR should do just fine with that setup.

I cut a 1.588 on ET Streets and ran 11.89 at a similar power level a few years back.
3875 race weight

That way the car is still reasonably streetable and gas mileage doesn't suffer from excessive gear.

just my .02
