Default help me

Im a newby here and I need some help!I have A M6 car w/alitte over 525 rwhp.I have a 3.42 now.The car runs 7:50s @98 in the 1/8.Its hard to leave in,1:70 60ft.I run 26x11.50s.What gear do I need in it.Im afraid I will kill my ET.the car has some susp.and will go over 120 in 1/4 now.Hardly drive it much on street.My 12 bolt has a series 3 carrier. COMMENTS?

no reason not to go at least 4.10 gear with that setup

That was my thoughts but Its had 3.42s since new.Lots of people say I will spin more but I cant ride clutch w/that spec and when I dump the clutch the wheels are spinnin about 30 w/that gear instantly? Plus I think the car should be alot quicker w/the M.P.H I'm running.

If you want my opinion, the best way to get the most out of that car at the strip would be to throw a turbo 400 in it and run at least a 4.10 and 28" slick combo. 6-speeds are hard to get to hook up and are inconsistent. If you do decide to stick with the 6-speed though, again, go at least a 4.10, maybe 4.30 or 4.56 (depending what you mph and where u shift at) and at least a 28" slick and if you don't have them already, definately get a set of hal's, they will really help you to hook it up with the 6-speed.

Just figure as high as you can go with a gear so you dont run out of motor crossing the traps in 4th - the more gear the better if you can hook it up. I would think even with a 1.70 60' you should be running better then 7.50s with that kind of power unless its really falling on its face at the starting line but your mph is OK depending on your weight. Good tires/suspension/track/the most gear you can run plus leaving hard is what you need to get your 60' and ET down.

You can get up to a 4.88 with a 3 series carrier so thats no problem..

What you need to do is put in 4.56 gears and 12 bolt. You need to run 28 to 30 tall slicks. hals all the way around. Set the fronts at 2 and the rears at 4. Have Madman install his tq arm and Dump that thing at 6,500 rpms. With that knd of set up I ran 11.001 with a 1.45 60 fts.

With your mph you should be running in the high 6's to very low 7.0's

loudmouth is right.i had two different clutch and flywheels installed,both burned up.if your car is like mine you are slipping of the line just enough that you cant feel it.check your clutch.if its burnt,it may be time to consider a built 400.

Thanks,The car has everything in it but the jack and spare.I thought about an auto but I still want an overdrive.I've roasted so many 4L60's in my old car that I wanted a six speed this time.I quess I've got to decide if I want to have a drag car thats streetable or a fast street car?I think Coach has the right idea but I will be in 5th in the 1/4,I dont see why that would be a problem?

With 4.56 gears and 30x9x15 slicks I always was in 4th gear going through the traps.

What kind of rpm? Did you have to cut the bumper to make them fit, I have 10in wheels w/6.5 backspace?

I'd run 28" slicks and leave the gear the way it is and run the combo until you think you h have it maxed out. I'd expect that you would run 125+ at some point and 10's if you could hook it.

6800 rpm and yes, we had to cut the feder wells.

I just feel like with that gear I am really shocking the tires,If it dead hooked with 28s at 4500 rpms somethings gonna give.I figured alittle gear would get it moving easier and alittle faster.I have not taken any weight out or the car +added subframes.Right now theres a happy spot I can leave at but if I get after it it will destroy my 11.50x26x15s Im gonna need bigger tires anyway but I dont think my clutch can handle 28s and 3.42s?

Well with a 12 bolt you can run 3.73's or 3.90's too.

But to me if you can't hook now you won't hook with more torque multiplication off the line, which is what you will get with more gear.

I would not run more than 3.90's.

OK here is some more info.I took off to easy,thought I would spin.
.074 lite 1.83-60ft 4.95-330 7.471 1/8@99.30 9.621-1000 11.430@123.98 could I see much inprovment changing from my 3.42 ?
