Plan on a new rear.
Technically you can gut the car, depends on what you can live with and what you can live without. At some point you will have to put money into the car for additional weight reduction and possibly safety items if you get that quick.
You never mentioned what transmission your running, I assume a T-56 based on the prev rear gears being 3.42's and the current ones being in the mid 4's
Good luck on the project!

If your planning on nitrous I would put a cage in first. With full bolt ons my car went 12.30's with a 6 speed 1.7 60'. If I had a big 4k stall auto it would have been in the high to even mid 11's for sure with a good 60 and as light as it is now. I did the heads and cam and through a tight nitrous converter it runs 11.40's with a shitty 1.64's-1.67's. I would do a cage first, rather than pull all the weight out and be upset with the weight when you have to add the cage later. Just my $0.02

Car is an automatic , I bought a rear with 3.42s , when i first bought car , it has stock convertor right now , but i have a vigil 3600 on tool box, one step at a time im not gonna gut car but i will eliminate usless parts , i will however keep A/C hehe, Ocasionally street use ,,and yes i will spend my Money where it Counts, I.E. roll cage and stuff , I do however already have BMR rear suspension already installed ,w/ subframe conectors ,
This Isnt My first rodeo But it is with Ls produck and trying to remain streetable , And Saftey is always on top of list
I think the Stock 10 bolt will hold up as long as motor remains stock with lil mods , I have friends running 585 BBC in 3500@ G-Body with factory 8.5 in it so im good for now, hopefully

I got 3 time trials Last night , car was as consistant as I could ask for 2 back to back 12.83 @108 '60 was 1.93 will post time slips when I learn how lol
these drag radials are as Sticky as hell, with motor being stk Hardly any burn out is nessasary , the car had run like a 12.89 or 93 before tune so I figure with hot *** weather and tune the tenth increase was good humitity down here is about 100% right now
yes 4.56 may be a lil much But I had the complete rear end laying in garage , I do have a rear with 4.10 already built but i thought try this first .The only thing I think is gonna break the rear end is these Hossier Drag Radials, lol , I mean theses suckers STICK
and yes FROST tune worked great it did have a lil shifting gitches but I figure its still learning , but in the end ran same ET.

I will start weight reduction after I take to track to see how much converter Helps my ET!!!!!

you will definately see a big difference with the converter!
You dont need any power to break a 10 bolt! a 4.10 gear in a 10 bolt has itty bitty tiny teeth, doesnt take much to break them or the factory posi units... I've got a couple of each in my car with the stock motor and hardly any bolt ons
