Default Tire Recommendations - Light Manual IRS car

Going to be buying a set of drag tires shortly, and wanted a little input.

I've been reading everything I can get my hands on, but my car is a bit more unique than some.

Car is a 1978 280z with a H/C/I LS1 / built T56. By our estimates it makes roughly 450 rwhp, and weighs ~2650#

The suspension is full coilovers (designed for corner carving, yes I know not ideal for the strip), 5 way tokico shocks, and it is LOW.

I am sure I can run an 8" wheel, and will be doing some measuring, and hopefully be able to stuff a 10" wheel under the car. I'm limited to a 26" tire, not that it should need any more. Rear is a 3.54 welded diff.

All appropriate measures have been taken to accomidate horsepower, so thats not a topic of discussion.

Planning on diong a full slick, or an ET street type tire.
I was just curious if there were any tire gurus out there that could tell me x compound would be better than y.

Hopefully once my schedule slows down i'll be out to the track almost every weekend until it closes.

if you can run a 26/10/15 et drag in the wheel well that should get it done for you. this tire would be at home on a 8 inch wheel to. i think its only made in one compound. i believe its m5.

whatever you do stick with a bias ply tire. as light as that car is a stiff sidewall shouldnt be needed.

to hook that kind of power with no weight and manual trans an et street might need to be to wide to fit your wheel well.

Alright. And yes, after some measuring last night, It looks like I will be sticking with an 8" (or 9" if i could find it) wheel.

Ya I dont think you can get a 26x10x15 et drag is stiff. I know that make a soft sidewall I ran in my GTP, that was a good tire to use. it was something like PN 3053c The C was dragsters without rear suspension. And FWD cars. I dont think I would run that on your car, I'd call MT and ask them. or check the vette guys about the irs, or cobra guys.
I know the cars light, maybe about as light as mine got no recommendations on the compond.
3.54 still kinda sucks, 26 for sure, Id put them on the widest rim you can. MT dont me for a class that was limited to 26x10.5 to run them on a 12" rim if I could haha. and thats what the other fast cars to do. that **** would be stretched too steeps, import guys would love it hahah

Just got off the phone with Mickey Thompson.

They recommended the L8 compound.

For this application, it would be a 26x8.5x15 ET drag.

Proabably going to be doing some serious looking at wheels this weekend, and then making a purchase!

Next question:
I bought a set of 15x9" wheels.

Would I be better off with an 8.5" tire, versus a 10" tire, assuming I could get the 10" tire to fit?

I've heard both answers, but no real "why" to it.
