Comp Engineering Roll Bar
I will be ordering the comp engineering 6 point cage from summit racing along with some kirky sfi padding in a few days
my questions are about this jig notching.. installation.. and painting
is the jig notching a big ordeal? i have a friends father who is a welder for a power plant who will weld it for me.. but as for the jig notching, its simple measure and cut right?
obviously to install ill have to remove all of the interior, but does anyone have the comp engineering style 6 point? i dont think it has the low slung sides.. so is this something i can bend? or will that be again nhra rules to alter a roll bar like that?
last.. how did you paint yours? did you paint it after welding it together and then installed it into the car, or did you install it.. tape everything off and then paint it while it after it was completely installed?
thanks for the help
Why not go with the Wolfe 6-point bar with the low slung sides, jig-notched? Mine fit perfectly with no problems. And they are a site sponsor, too.
I painted my bar when it was already installed and in the car.

I have installed numerous roll bars but never in a 4th gen so take my advice for what it is worth. You don't need a tubing notcher but it will certainly make life a ton easier, fish mouthing the tubing ends with grinder takes a little skill. Installing a roll bar is not for the faint of heart - it will require a decent degree of skill and patience. It will save a ton of heartache if you can get a kit that is pre-notched. I have always painted the bars after install. Follow the rules closely - my local track could almost care less but if you'd ever take your car somewhere else they may care and you want it to be correct with nice welds.
But Wolfe is $480 shipped with their offer right now (Mild steel weld in everything standard and jig notched)
Id have to buy a case of busch light for my friends dad, and as for paint, ill probably just spray can it since most will be covered by padding anyways
If i go that route, i could still keep it under $600 and probably get it painted right

Save your money up and buy a nice rollbar from a company that is known for a well-fitting product. I'm not putting CE down, but there is a multitude of testimonies about the Wolfe 6pt on this board. CE? Not so much..

for photos of completed installs so you can make an informed decision. Just like previously said; not knocking Competition Engineering, but make sure you dot the i's before buying.Derek
