Can't hook with Koni's...

When adjusting the rears, I dont have that white **** so would it be ok to just use some vice grips or something? Looks like all you need to do is turn it (the flat thing) right? Nothing needs to be loosened up to make the adjustment? Sorry for all the newb questions.
