That may be you're problem right there.

I'm no expert, but I'll agree a tune is in order. Also, if the B1 peaks at like 6200 and you're winding it 7k, isnt that way past power production for that cam? Plus you have a 5000 stall. What's the shift extension? Maybe you're shorting yourself 10-20hp by always being past the peak hp??? Plus the little bit you may be shorting by running octane thats too high.

I think it would be really cool to run in the high 10's with the stock motor with the B1 cam. Got any ideas on how to push her on into the 10's?

If you are dead set on using that cam, definatly get the car tuned for it, also while the car is on the dyno you can find the optimum shift point for your setup (which might help quite a bit), I would step down to 93 octane instead of the 104 as well (higher octane gas burns slower and you dont need it for that motor)
The larger tires you now have should help out some but Im not sure you will make it all the way through the traps without still tapping the limiter a little. Maybe you could bump it to 7100 when you get it tuned, Im sure Andrew won't mind since you plan on freshning it up when your done with it
On a side note I think we should all thank the Coach for showing us how friggin fast an F-body can go with a tired old B1 cammed motor

I'd step down to 93 unless you want to jack your timing up to like 33-35 degrees at WOT.
I'm wondering if it would make sense to retard the cam a bit to make it work at higher rpms that combo might be peaking at 6200 as was stated. At 6600 you might be overrevving.
How come the long wait on your Thunder motor?

FWIW Coach is going to buy the motor from me. So it'll be his to stick a big gnarly cam in if he wants. He just needs to change the valvesprings - the Isky 235's are on the edge with the B1 as it is (but holding out well!).
I agree about the 93 octane fuel. You might just start running that. I found that octane booster actually slowed my 94Z down after I mixed it in at the dragstrip.
Or get it tuned to run 104 all the time.
I don't think the tune would be terribly far off. You might pick up a few horses, but probably not many. I'd just try different fuel first. And listen for detonation.
Knock on wood, I think the little motor is holding out very well for just having the valvetrain and oil pump upgrades.
Good luck Coach!
(oh, and I agree with the others about having your wife drive )

Retarding the cam and changing the limiter to 7100 is also a good idea.(peak HP happening @ 6500 ish).Trapping @ 115 in a 3200# car shows me that your are missing some HP.
I would strap it to the dyno and tune it, first.
104 octane is a waste.
I ran my car up to 35 degrees of timing with no knock on 93 pump gas.
My G5X-2 made the best power @ 31 degrees.
Unless you have a BIG cam with lots of overlap there is virtually NO gain in advancing the timing, unless you just like the smell of race gas.

Sean,
I was trying to run 10's a couple of months ago. I run a best of 11.03 @ 116 mph in great weather.I just couldn't get her in the 10's.
The fastest run with this motor was back in Nov. Thanksgiving weekend I went 6.97 @ 96 mph in Hattiesburg Mississippi 1/8 mile at the super 10's race.
I think getting her tuned for this motor is the next place to start. Hell, I'll run 93 octane. It sure is cheaper than 104 unlead race gas.
Now that is going to be awhile(1 month or so) on my new motor I really would like to see if I could get her into the 10's so I asked the question from my friends here on LS1tech to help me out.
Pro Stock John,
Like I said above, a dyno tune seems in order. I sure can come down on the fuel. The motor; this and that.
Andrew,
You are the Man!
This little motor totally ROCKS! When the new motor get finished this one will go in for a freshen up and a big cam!
My wife would totally get off on driving my car. I need no help from you guys!
Thanks Guys.

Maybe I should put a new set of valve springs on her and a new set of plugs?
By the way my wife really loves the smell of race gas.

Coach, you know I have about 250 used LS1 cams sitting in my office. lol All you needed to do was ask. Bring the car to Thunder one weekend and I'll put your choice of cam in there, change the valvesprings, and re-tune the car free of charge. Just let me know a weekend and we'll take care of it. It's about time you made a 10 second pass in Hot Rod!!
BTW, your shortblock is done. Just waiting on the heads to get back. That's the big hold-up now.
