Default launching tips

soon i'll be making my first trip to the drag strip (rockingham, nc). seems like the most important part is having a great launch. i'll be on nitto245/16's or possibly 275/17's if i have enough$. my car is a M6. what detailed advice do you vets have for my launching? i want to practice before i go but my practice would have to be on crappy 245 kumo's. so what would i have to adjust in my practice, to when i have the nittos at the track. thanks-jim

with a stock rear on nittos you can ride it out quickly, dont dump it. go from about 2500. you should bet pulling 1.8's you cant practice on stock tires without toasting them. just practice riding out the clutch smoothly and quickly.

launching on street tires and on nittos are to different worlds

get the tires and go with the 16s because they will hook better because of more sidewall

do a 2ed gear burn out for about 5-7 seconds
pump clutch
rev up to 4000 and dump it

and air then down to 16 lbs

i know, some get away with it. ive seen at least 4 f-bodys blow them on drag radials. one guy was running low 12's and was on his third one. so i didnt want to be stranded like them.

i dont have the $ for a 12bolt, and i use my car for a daily driver so tearing the rearend out wouldn't be in my best interest, so i think i'm a little bashful to do a 4k drop. how about if i go w/ 245/16 nitto's, 5second burnout, psi around 18, and do a 2-2.5k drop from the line? what kinda 60ft times should i expect? thanks

I would do what SMOKIN01TA said rev it to about 2000-2500 rpm's and ride the clutch out of the hole. That won't put stress on your rearend but might put a little stress on your clutch.

I got my car with 854 miles on it .Since then has been a track only car.The stock rear held up to about 20 pass with 1.7 60ft. before I snapped an axel. With the stock rear and bolt ons went a best of 12.10 at 110 New best now with 12 bolt rear ( heads and cam)is 11.5 at 119 heres a video of my pass.Dont forget a short spin in the water to get the tires wet then pull foward out of the water to do your burn out.You be suprised at how many people dont know to do that ftp://68.194.14.214/files/racing_vid...2TransAmWS6LS1
