Benefit? Lighter, more engine bay room, and a slight bit more hp since you don't have to turn the pump.
Hinerance? Only one I can think of is it is a little bit of work to turn 275 street tires from lock to lock when you are at a dead stop. Not bad at all though IMO. I am very glad I switched to manual steering in my car.

I've run a Madman rack, and on a later car a looped stock rack both with skinnies.
They both drove great with skinnies. But with stock front wheels and tires the latter is brutal.

I have the Bmr k-member with the flaming river rack.
With skinnies it's really not much more effort unless your
Almost stopped and making a really tight turn. It seems
More stable at high speeds to me.

I have the BMR & flaming river combo and don't be fooled the difference b/w a power rack and a manual rack is night and day. It's not impossible by any means but you have to use some muscle on a sharper turn or parking.
With that said I love the simplicity and the clean look. I'd never go back to a power steering setup in this car.

I'm running a Spohn front K with flaming river rack, and Mickey thompson sportsman pro skinnies in front. The steering is fine, and more stable at high speeds than power steering. I had 275/40s on the front before with the drag radial setup, and it was a bear to turn. If you are putting skinnies on, it'll be fine.

I have chewed on this idea a lot, what about something between a 225-245? I use mine as a dd just until I pay it off. Would this be something worth doing sooner then later? I'm trying the save weight without being noticeable by others
