Default manual steering on street

My car is not a DD. Only nice weekend rides. Any benefit or hinderance on spirited street driving?

Benefit? Lighter, more engine bay room, and a slight bit more hp since you don't have to turn the pump.

Hinerance? Only one I can think of is it is a little bit of work to turn 275 street tires from lock to lock when you are at a dead stop. Not bad at all though IMO. I am very glad I switched to manual steering in my car.

I have MadMan Racing's manual rack. Works great. Had it for six years or so now.

More benefits than hindrances IMO. Do it and don't look back, you will never miss it.

I like my manual rack, all my components are from MWC, I had to build my steering shaft but my setup is a little different.

Yeah mine is a madman rack as well. Had a little bit of a dilemna getting the correct steering shaft (I bought mine used), but madman sent me one straight over quickly to solve my problem. Now everything works great!

How easy does it turn with skinnies on the front?

I've run a Madman rack, and on a later car a looped stock rack both with skinnies.

They both drove great with skinnies. But with stock front wheels and tires the latter is brutal.

I have the Bmr k-member with the flaming river rack.
With skinnies it's really not much more effort unless your
Almost stopped and making a really tight turn. It seems
More stable at high speeds to me.

I have the BMR & flaming river combo and don't be fooled the difference b/w a power rack and a manual rack is night and day. It's not impossible by any means but you have to use some muscle on a sharper turn or parking.

With that said I love the simplicity and the clean look. I'd never go back to a power steering setup in this car.

Since skinnies are usually on my car, I will say this: Going from a stock 10 bolt to a 9 inch with a spool affected my turning worse than going from power steering to manual.

^^This.
I'm running a Spohn front K with flaming river rack, and Mickey thompson sportsman pro skinnies in front. The steering is fine, and more stable at high speeds than power steering. I had 275/40s on the front before with the drag radial setup, and it was a bear to turn. If you are putting skinnies on, it'll be fine.

I'm surprised. It was exactly the opposite for me. The spool didn't make any noticeable difference.

I also have skinnies up front and I still think it's a lot harder again not impossible but a big difference.

I have chewed on this idea a lot, what about something between a 225-245? I use mine as a dd just until I pay it off. Would this be something worth doing sooner then later? I'm trying the save weight without being noticeable by others
