Is it worth it, how much weight can you cut out.

Mine is trimmed back but some more "trimming" is taking place as we speak. If I remember correctly it wasnt a ton of weight but was so easy to do that it was worth it .

Sorry photo is so small posting from phone. Did this so I could mount all the stock body panels in a permanent fashion for no removable 1 piece front end rules... Rules changed and its not needed now... But I won't undo it as it came out nice.

Have a little more cutting in progress on the shock towers, for header clearance, when its all finished I will put up another picture.

How do you guys feel about cutting inners on a street/strip car? It seems like it would compromise too much structural rigidity for any cornering or pot holes.

I agree. I would not do that unless the roll cage extended through the firewall. Making a car more flexible seldom makes it hook, or work better. :-)
I would never do that to mine. Of course, mine is a tank. It's 2845 lbs with no ballast or driver.

That looks great JL!! If you were to do what JL did, and run tubes to the frame front and back, it should be as rigid as stock. That's my plan at least. Along with everything stock in front of the K member.

Finally got around to getting the fenders off.
Would it be better for structural, hole sawing them or go on and cut them out?

If you use a hole saw you can get 18 lbs out with a 3 and 4 inch home saw. Mi did this before cutting it all off.... Cutting it all off and the small round bar with tabs like I did saved over 40.

Cut a total if 154 lbs off the front of my car and put 34 lbs back to hold everything, that's as close we could get weight wise, by weighing a foot of the material then measuring it out one it was built.

I know what we cut off is accurate, including the firewall portion

Cutting off the metal, does it support the fenders easily or will it sag?

its not close to the fender at all. If you lean on it and push till it hit the under metal I bet the fender would crack in the cold. you still have all the fender suppot, it hangs on the top over the lip in the engine bay you dont cut that (well on a stock car were talking about). I think theirs 1 bolt in the door jam too, Its a L braket that bolts to the body with some adjustemt, you dont touch that. Then the 2 bolts under the fender to the rocker tap that gets bend it you jack the car on it. And the front behind the headlight has a molded alignment tap 2 bolts, that is welded to the core support, you dont touch that. The fenders dont really sag, they bolt on really good.

Here are a few pics of when I did mine for us Trans Am guys.

Think I shaved off about 11-12lbs for cutting them off.

Hope that helps out some

Thanks for the pics!
I'm kind of worry about the car flexing or twisting when coming down from a big wheelie.
I only have a 8 pt roll bar.
Also is it sturdy enought for a pin on hood. Don't want the hood flying off the car.

I don't know about a wheelie but I my car leaves low and straight with no twisting or flexing and I also have a cage. I just ordered a pin-on hood and installed Dzus rails and they are very sturdy attached to the fender.
