Default Needing a Little insight! 408!

This will be my first time stepping away from the little ole 346 ls1, broke a rod. Looking for a few educated opinions on real world experiences with 408's or something similar.
Im on a tight budget so swinging the cash for the 408 will be hard enough but i have found one. Anyways..
I have AFR 225 heads milled to 59cc already so i would like to use them, i also have a Fast102 and 92mm tb which i am willing to part with.

408 will have -2cc valve reliefs so with my heads my compression would be around 12.5 i think?

My car is 96% drag race and has a 5200 converter 9" and 4.11's. I want a decently radical setup but still be able to go get ice cream on a nice night if i want to.

question 1 : What Cam? im going to get a custom grind for sure, probably from Tick or somewhere like that. Going to be a N/A build with maybe a very slight possibility of a 150-200 hit for some grudge racing. Rings are gaped for 200 shot either way.

question 2 : keep the Fast intake and TB setup i have or sell it and get a Vic Jr or Super Vic and a 4150 TB? I want to spin this thing about as high as it will let me/hold. maybe 74-7500 if it will. I do not want to do any major cutting on the cowl either if possible.

Let me know what you stroker guys have been finding out. Im not looking for a 500hp build here, more like 550 or more!

Your on the right track. If you got a 408 in mind get it.
Call Tick for cam.
Sell the intake and tb, get a Super Victor and Fast 4150 TB. You can cut alittle of the cowl for the TB.
They tell me a nitrous plate system is the best for the 4150 TB.
Looking at about 530 NA. Add what ever shot you put on it.

If you go with the super victor, be prepared to loose your wipers.....I'm currently building a 408 w/ a super vic on top and haven't figured out how to make wipers work on it

I would like to be able to run pump gas but when i race ill have 116 probably.

530hp? that its? talked to matrin for a little while and a 255/263 on a 109 lsa might wake her up

So you want to build a 96% drag car and keep the wipers?

Yeah really.
I'm no cam expert, but that cam is alittle to big.
530 is about the avg 408.

I like the camshaft specs. But I'de go with the super vic intake... who needs wipers? just use rainX for the occasional drive. I hardly ever use wipers on my daily driver truck. It has to be coming a turd floater to even need em.

ya, i do want to keep the wipers, the car is clean title and in good shape, i just dont want to do a bunch of cutting on the car. Ill, notch the cowl a little maybe but thats probably it. I assume ill have to run the Vic Jr in that case?

You can do a small notch like me . I already came to the conclusion that most of these cars are nothing rare or special. And pry won't even be worth it's original price again for another 20 years, it's just a fbody to me. But if you want don't want to cut your car up I can respect that just keep in mind you could be leaving power or et on the table potentially.

I've been in the same boat , i have a Ported 102 setup on my 404 and I'm highly considering selling it and the cam to go with a ported super Vic and one of Martins cams, my car did 537 with 2 miles on the motor

my main concern is the heads. the afr 225s have never impressed me really. I know there have been some good numbers with em but they aren't up there with the tfs 235s.

I have heard both good and decent, never bad about an afr head. I figured I would use them since I already have them. Talked to the guys at AFR and they said the 225 will perform well on 400+ Ci and my compression will be pretty good so I'm not to worried about the heads. They are CNc port and polish by the way

Nothing wrong with the AFR 225's, if you want, send them to Tony and get them
Mamodified.
I've always liked the TEA TFS 235's.
But this time I went with some MAST 245's.

Before everybody started making 235 and up runners, The AFR 225 was the best head to go with at the time. Is there better? Yes there is, but it worked back then on 408's and it will still work now on a 408.

do you guys with the Vic intakes and 4150 TB's drive your cars much? The more i think about it i do not want my car to be a trailer queen and even though i do not drive my car but maybe 600 miles a year am i hurting performance if i leave the Fast 102 on it? I will send off the 5200 converter and get it made for whichever cam i end up going with, hopefully something in the 44-4600 range would be nice if that works out
