Help: Blowing through converter??
My full-weight TA with 4L80E and 3500 converter, 3.73 gears, is trapping 128mph.
In 3rd gear at 6000rpm I see TCC slip of 1000rpm on average, and at 6200rpm it's around 900rpm. After shifts rpms drop from 6200 to 5500.
Does this look normal? Or is TC too loose and robbing me performance?
I also plan to put 3.08 gears and more power soooo...
Right now your getting a 700 rpm drop on the shift, and slip numbers around 14% at 6200. It can be tricky figuring out what the ideal slip numbers would be, as there is no "magic number". Some combo's trap better with more, some with less as a general statement. Without testing a few different converters it'll be real hard to know what exactly yours wants. Who built it? You may try to call the maker and run those numbers by them and see if that is what they planned on it doing giving your power and weight.
I would say your near the limit and adding power would likely push it over the edge and it would probably then be too loose.
It really just depends on how much trouble you want to go through testing different converters.
I'm going through this right now with PTC. They just got my converter back.......it'll be the 4th try in 20 passes.
I was just expecting TC to almost fully couple (that is, within 3-4%) near 6000rpm, not 16.7%, or some 22% at 5500
