How much ET do you lose if you don't powershift?

Re: How much ET do you lose if you don't powershift?
It depends on tires and the car. If you have a nicely geared car on street tires, powershifting can slow you down because of the wheelspin. When I had my '86 GT I actually lost about .15 when I would try to powershift the 1-2 shift on street tires. That car's 3.73 gears, 3100 pound raceweight, and cold tires on a cold track would not hook at all if I banged 2nd too hard. I had the most luck keeping my foot on the gas about 1/2 way down while I shifted 1-2, then powershifting 2-3 and 3-4. I don't know what that would be called (keeping my foot 1/2 way down) but that was the best method for me in that car.

Yea I powershift a lot with my 4.10 street tire setup...the A$$ end kicks out pretty bad... <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">
Like I said before and I'll say it again...

I have to fess up gang. My hard shifting definately took its toll on my Mustang's T5 tranny. I hit the 2-3 shift real hard one night coming home from work and it sounded like a bomb went off, followed by some metal chunks flying around. LOL I could hear pieces of metal flying around inside, 3rd gear exploded on me :-)

I found that I lost anywhere between one to two tenths by not powershifting in my 98 Formula. It was even more than that with my supercharged Mustang GT, since when I granny shifted it would back up the boost a little bit (I didn't have a bypass valve so the closing of the throttle body on the shifts created too much turbulence)
