Default Prototype 2 Step, who's interested??

I've been working on a 2 step for track use, trying to get some boost on the line.

So, I figured i'd make a little clip to show how it's coming along.

Here's a 1 minute video of the 2 step in action. It's just the prototype right now, so don't mind the wiring mess

I'm limmiting at 3200 for all of this, and w/ the exhaust capped. My neighbors hate me if i do this w/ the cut outs open and at 5000

I first show from the engine bay, show where the connections are made to the coils using OEM connectors. I'm trying to do it such that all you do is plug it in, and run your trigger line.

the i have the camera on the ground in front so you get a better idea of how much the turbos are spooling.

then inside. Watching the tach and then the boost gauge. It just starts to make boost w/ the exhaust capped. Open it up, and i make about 2 psi at 3200

higher than that and i make good boost for sitting still

http://harlan.sketchy.net/store/2step/2step.mpg

it's about 14 megs, sorry

Harlan, as a bracket racer who's considering the switch to electronics, you 2-step would be a blessing. There's no other way I'd consistantly be able to launch my car off a t-brake. The lack of a 2-step is one reason I haven't made the switch already...

Please keep everyone here up to date (especially me ). Then maybe I can buy that delay box and tranny brake I've been wanting!

once i figure out what the coil pack connectors are gonna cost me i'll know the details. I know people are not gonna want to cut and splice 8 coil pack wires

those are the biggest issue i have right now. Getting one-sies and two-sies of the is not problem, but 50 or 60 gets tough

It does make for intersting backfires if you hit it while driving, good for tailgater's

Are you using the existing rev limiter or have you designed a soft touch????

at this point is a single lower limiter, with the existing PCM limiter still intacked.

Although, it's a simple matter of making it a true 2 step. You could set the PCM limiter high, and have a soft touch come in lower.

All depends on what people are interested in

I personally prefer ignition limiting vs fuel cutoff limiting. especially under boost or nitrous for that matter.

Will this work on a LT1? If so you can mark up one order (as long as it's under 75 or so bucks).

M6's w/ N20 wouldn't benefit too much, its more for people with boosted applications or those like George, and I'm assuming here so correct me if I'm wrong, who are running a big stall and maybe hit a little too hard off the line or stall too much, this lets them launch on the gas but not up against the stall.

Right?

But for boosted applications it means a 6 speed car can make boost in neutral, which would turn those nice 1.7 60's into 1.5's or better assuming nothing breaks.. I guess it could also make an auto make boost under the stall speed.

Well, my specific application would be for bracket racing. The two step would be used in conjunction with a t-brake and delay box, if I decide to run electronics races in the future. In my case, the 2-step would allow me to stage the car, press the t-brake button, and floor the gas while maintaining a "launch rpm" of whatever value (say 2800rpm). I wouldn't have to concentrate on keeping the rpms at a certain point, or hitting the gas at the right time, since it would already be WOT. It would reduce the heat buildup in the converter as well, since I wouldn't be on the converter as hard at a lower rpm.

For a super/turbocharged car, it would allow them to build positive boost at the starting line (especially helpful with manual tranny car).

I have a question, is it possible within the ECM programming to link an action (such as the clutch switch being depressed) to lower the rev limit. I know on some of the DCM cars, they can do that. Just curious!

We were talking about hooking it up to the clutch release switch.

i had originally set it up to work on 2 inputs. One to put it in "standby" kinda like a get ready state. That was to be the clutch switch. Then another switch to arm it. That would have been just another pushbutton.

so push in the clutch and then push the other button. It stutters until you release the clutch, or push the arm button again. But, w/ the many apps out there, i figured go w/ a single trigger input.

I have a latching relay setup that will do just what you need. clutch in, hit the button, it stutters until you dump it

then BAM, wheels up or break something
