Default notched windshield?

Has anyone ever notched their windshield without it shattering or without switching to lexan? I've got the holley high ram and I'm wanting to go with the 417 water to air that bolts between the plenums. It's in my 98 z28 so the intake is already going to set against the windshield. Any ideas?

Contact a glass shop. I don't know if that can be done.

It can be done, but tends to not work well in the long run.

If the glass guy can successfully cut it, over time they tend to crack. The cutting messes with the way the glass is tempered.

You will end up with more invested in a stock notched unit than the Optic Armor lexan by the time it's done, and I guarantee the Optic Armor window will last.

Give us a call... we have the Optic Armor windows in stock and the lowest prices.

Doubtful... unless the WJ is a multiaxis with dynamic height control and good positioning software.

I used to cut glass for a living. It is easy to do if you know what you are doing but also easy to ruin a windshield if you do not. The trick is not to cut it all at once. The more inverted the notch and the smaller the radius is the more it will try to bind and crack your windshield. Take a series of small cuts no more than 5/8" strips at a time. This can not be done with the windshield in the car since you will need to score and break both sides of the glass. (Windshields are two pieces of glass with lamination in the center). Score one side and break it, then score the other side and break it. Try to be as acurate as possible on both sides for best results. After the glass is cracked on both sides where you scored it with the glass cutter, poor denatured alcohol on the cut area and light it on fire to heat it up. A heat gun can be used as well. To be on the safe side on these types of cuts I usually do it twice, this is to soften the lamination so you can remove the piece of glass you are cutting. After the flame goes out poor some more alcohol on it to help disolve the lamination and loosen it some more. Then cut it loose with a razor blade. Remember the larger the radius the easier it is so if you need a notch 2" high by 4" wide it would be easier to cut the windshield 2" high and 8" wide to lessen the binding effect. Good luck
