Default WEIGHT REDUCTION vs. weight over the rear wheels :)

Just wondering what the general concensus is. Would you rather go ahead and remove up to 100 lbs from the car even if most of that weight was in the rear of the car? I mean how much does weight over the rear wheels help with traction on the launch, and does it need to be positioned squarely over the wheels. Im sure most of these questions would be void if you had a fresh pair of DR's on the back.. what you think?? My car weighs 3675 with me in it (me = 190), and i wanna shed some weight! How many of you have taken the sound deadening material out from under the carpet, (its been weighed in at around 50 lbs, how LOUD did the ride get? Also did anyone take their rear seats out?? I NEVER use them, and is there a way to make it so it doesnt look stupid with them out. Post pics if ya got em! Thanks for any help!

This depends entirely on how much traction is a problem to you.

I have a 40 lb battery in my trunk well. Would I remove that 40 lbs if I could? No, I desperately NEED that traction at this point! But...IF I could hook without it I wouldn't want it.

Point is, no one can answer this question for you since no one knows if you could dead hook without a certain amount of rearward weight. The most important thing is that you are able to DEAD HOOK. A little weight reduction is not as important as that.

Let me illustrate this one point further....

I carry with me to the track 70 lbs of removable lead weight. If the track isn't hooking I start adding weight. The first 60 ft of the track is where the race is won. I can't stress that enough! Yes, it's BEST to get traction without adding ballast but IF there is no other way to secure %100 traction at the time, adding weight to the most rearward part of the car is a VERY effective way of getting the necessary traction.

%100 traction in the hole is EXTREMELY important. Only when that is achieved should you start thinking about removing weight on top of or rearward of the rear axle.

I see your point Colonel <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0"> Ok so how about i remove as much weight as possible from the front, that will sure take the guesswork out of it there as ANY weight off the front is good! Battery relocation, sway bar, (already have lightweight hood), AIR pump, etc. Need that weight transfer! BTW i do have problems hooking, right now on stock RSA's, however DR's are coming and ST-3500 will be a huge kick in the butt, lol i think i should leave the weight in the back!

Thanks Again

I'm interested in this as well. Would it be worth it to put my spare and jack back in the car to gain weight over rear wheels? I think 40 lbs of the rears might help. I have heard of people having the front end of their car raise up with the spare and battery in the back because of the extra weight. Any added traction to come from more weight in the back?
Thanks
