Default Tonight's my last night at the track...

...this year, anyhow. Gainesville shuts down after tonight, and doesn't reopen until January. The weather here has gotten hot again, so I don't think they'll be any new bests tonight. I have quite a few projects I need to get done, so this will be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Projects include: new cam/valvesprings, heater core removal, fiberglass hood (maybe), tubular k-member/a-arms (maybe), 30x11.5 rear slicks (maybe), ABS module removal, line-lock install, and maybe some other stuff...

That sucks that they close that track up there down. Orlando speedworld here I dont think closes cept for like a week or two in december. Why the change to 30" slicks? You dont think that would be too tall of a tire? What gears are you running? Why not try working out the transbrake and a 2 step first you car already hooks incredibly well? Just wondering. Good luck tonight

Hey at least you guys can race sooner than we can, our tracks are closed until April!!

The worst part is, they closed about 3-4 weeks ago, yet we've had one of the warmest Novembers on record, with no snowfall at all. It has been perfect drag racing weather all month long, so the tracks could've still gotten a lot of business.

On the plus side, in the spring one of our dragstrips is getting redone. They already started working on it, tearing down the starting line and repaving. This track has a rep for the worst track in the area, yet it's also the closest to Toronto, so it's popular because of that reason. By the sounds of it, this will be a world class facility next year, it's getting an IHRA national event too. It used to be known as Cayuga, but will be renamed Toronto International Dragway, or something along those lines.

Poor unlucky bastages! HRP never closes, only if a track day falls on a holiday. Houston rules!!

Patman, yeah I can't understand why a track wouldn't close during the summer (hot weather) and stay open in the cold weather in Florida!! Oh well! Quite a few cars, i made 4 passes in 3 hours, probably about 100 cars easy.

BTW George, killer runs!! You gonna put up the videos??

MacGyver: I've changed my mind on swapping tires for now, I'll be staying with the 28" slicks next year... I was going to go with a bigger tire to help with consistency, especially on so-so track surfaces. The 28"'s work really well most of the time, and I'm concentrating on getting more weight out of the car, which should help. Most, if not all, will come off the front of the car (looking for 100lbs).

Derek: I may put something up... The footage came out OK, but the car was so-so in the warm air last night, so as you know, nothing spectacular happened. I did bust off an 11.06 through the mufflers though (1.44 60').

If/when I do my "compilation" video, I'll probably put that on the net...

I did get started on the dash tonight though...

Kind of scary, huh? Wonder if I can get it back together?

...but the dash is going back in, honest! I don't mind gutting the car of anything not needed, but I won't make it look like a total theft recovery car

Carpet, all panels, 2 seats, console, etc... It all stays.

George that dash looks pretty scary to me

OSW is open until Dec 21st and there is a Funday Sunday on Dec 16th.

There's some time left to run this year and possibly get a new best

Richie, it looks like I'll be down in Orlando that weekend, but I doubt I'll bring the car... Who knows, though.

FWIW, the dash is all back in now, and the car is 26lbs lighter...

What did you take out of the dash?

Heater core, AC ducting, all that heating/cooling stuff... A huge pile of stuff, but not as much weight as I would have liked to see.

OK, so I'm a stinking liar

I hate that track. 3 time trials, and the car spun every single one (60's were 1.50, 1.50, 1.49). 1st round, the car hooks a little and goes 1.46, causing my light to be a tad early (.491). It was very warm and felt pretty humid, but I still mustered a 6.94@97mph. I can't wait to see how much another 75lbs. or weight savings is worth, along with the new cam...

Wow! George actually caught in a
Glad to hear it ran okay in the jax air, which I'll admit the one time I visited sucked! 6.94 is pretty good right? BTW, Orlando is running Saturday night bracket races the 8th and 15th
I can't go unfortunately, as I have NPD's annual car show this weekend, then graduation next weekend. Just thought you might want to know

Nope, I'm done til 1/19 when Gainesville opens back up for that 1st Saturday test and tune. Hopefully I'll have everything I plan on doing finished up.

I ordered a k-member/a-arms, and a pin-on fiberglass hood today. I'm just waiting to hear back on my cam/valvesprings, but hopefully they'll be ready to go in the next day or so.

I ordered a 2" cowl hood, but I'm having 2nd thoughts now, and may change my order to a flat "stock style" hood.
