Default Coilover Spring Rate

I had a question about spring rates for my strange coilovers. I had a 300 pound spring on the front, now im up to a 350. But im almost having to max out my height adjustment. This is a turbo car btw. 4.8, s475 and all mild steel piping. I know its gonna be heavy but i just cant see me having to put in 375 lbs springs. Am i doing something wrong or is my car just a heavy turd?

the 350 spring should be fine. What size front tire are you running?

IDK why, but those tires on the front look pretty big. You aren't trying to crank your springs up just to clear your tires are you? Remember if you drag race the car, you set your ride height according to the length of shock travel you have. 60/40 This means when your car is setting level, your front shocks should be collapsed 60% of their travel. If you crank the spring up too much you will get coil bind when you collapse the shocks all the way. The spring should support the car. You can get away with putting a little extra tension on the spring in the front, but not too much. The back is different. There should only be a 1/16 - 1/8" of pre load set on the springs with the shocks fully extended. Ride height should only be adjusted by spring weight or the height the shock is mounted. Never by cranking up the tension on the spring.

The tires are big... and yea i was just trying to get the fender off of the tire. i think a 375 spring will be the best. instead of cranking the coils up. i need to read up on some of the preload and suspension settings. still learning.

You may have to go to a smaller tire. I would not go to a 375 until you check your shock travel. You just want enough spring to support the car. This is all of coarse if you want your car to launch good without wheel stands. Don't try to fit the car to the tire. Get a tire that will fit the car.
