Default Drag radials in 275/40/R17

After yet another disappointing, traction-less evening at the track, I've come to the obvious conclusion that BFG KD's are not good for launches. I've got 12-second horsepower (and 108+ trap speeds to match) but can't get it to the ground at launch - I'm running mid 13's and spinning the whole way down the track, even after a burnout to heat 'em up. The sidewalls are just too stiff. I can take a 90-degree corner at almost 50-mph and barely hear the tires singing - they stick like crazy when you're moving, but if I ask them to launch from a dead stop, I'm ****-out-of-luck.

I want to move to a 275/40/R17 drag radial. Which ones will I have the best luck with? They all seem to be about $150 a piece... I just want to know which one seems to have the best traction. I could care less about longevity. Since I only race my car at the strip in the exact form in which I drive it on the street, I don't want to move to 16's and swap them out every time I go to the track. Thoughts? Opinions? Drop 'em on me. Thank in advance...

I'm really happy with the Nitto NT555-R drag radials (275.40.17). They stick like glue on the street, and I'm getting 1.9 60'times in my heavy (convertered)A4 droptop at a slick track (Carlsbad).

They last around 6-8k miles, run them no higher than 24psi or you will wear the **** out of the middle.

Good luck !

BFG Drag Radials hook better at the track, Nittos hook better on the street. Nittos last about twice as long also.

moving this thread to drag racing section, its not engine tech related

Tony is right. On the street the Nittos hook like I do not what. That is if you are concrete. Anything else then forget it. At the track the 16 inchers seem to work best, but the 17's have not been working for me. I cut better 60's with my F1's..

I have basically the same question. I run my car at the track with everything exactly as I run it on the street - I guess because that is where I drive it 99% of the time and that is where I want it to be fast. The track times are only to tell me how fast I am on the street.

So what tire hooks the best on the street without having to heat it up - I want the best traction I can get available at any instant during normal driving.

I amrunning 1.60 60ft. times with bfgdr's. That is my best.Runs 11.67@115mph with nos dry kit ,asp under drive pulley, tci street fighter coverter, gmaf, airbox lid,160degress t. stat. Also a few free mods.I drive a 2000 SS convertable it weighs 3900lbs with me in it.I tore the torque arm bushing and bracket off the side of the trans. Polyurethane bushing and boxed lca's helped alittle bit but it still wheel hops a little. The bfg's waer out in about 1500 miles with racing and street driving nitto's last twice as long but are inconsistant in 60ft and require along burnout which is harder on the car.
