Does Rear Draglites need longer wheel studs?
I feel that the fronts with 5/16" spacers need the longer studs, wondering about the rears, i plan on grinding the calipers. will the 12mmX1.5 be enough for the rear rims?
15X10 7.5 bs if that matters.

Re: Does Rear Draglites need longer wheel studs?
While it's not an absolute necessity, I would recommend installing longer studs on the drive wheels for the sake of safety. I have ARP 7/16th studs on the rear of my car, but will be installing 5/8 studs before the car goes back together...
The big 5/8 studs may be a little bit overkill for most applications, but they also eliminate the need to use the crappy shank lug nugs.

yeah, what george says is better than my idea. i'm gonna go with the longer studs once i get the new rear end. the only problem with the aftermarket studs is they might protrude out of the center section of some wheels, so i can't use the covers on my chrome 5 star stock rims when i'm not runnin the pro stars.

True... A long stud will pretty much disable you from running stock wheels. A 5/8 stud will definately prevent you from running the stock wheels, as I doubt you can find a 5/8" acorn style lugnut like the factory wheels take...
I own nothing but Draglites, so I didn't even consider the issue of running stock wheels when I replied.

If you are running stock studs be sure to not overtighten. You will break the nut on the sleeve portion of the nut. The stud really needs to go 1D minumum into the hex portion of the nut. The nuts also may tend to untighten more easily without the stud extending into the hex.

Thanks for the replies!
I will be ordering the studs for the rear!! That is the safest and will meet any rules that might prevent me from racing, you just never know what the Tech Guy will say...

I had Moser install their long 1/2" studs on my 12-bolt and I can still use the stock rims. Here is the trick, if you simply use the same 5/16" spacer behind the stock wheels (it actually looks better too) you can use some chrome 1/2" long-style truck acorn lugs. These are fully enclosed and cover the complete stud, but only fit if you use the spacer. They also do not stick out from the wheel, just about even with the centercap and look nice.

I'm also interested in some more input from others on this issue. If you were to install 1/2" studs on the rear, and still use the 5/16" spacer like Tony said, is there still a way to run the factory silver painted Z28 wheels with acorn type lug nuts and the gray plastic caps on top of them?
I plan on running 15"x 10" Welds with 26" x 11.5" x 15" ET Streets, while cutting 1.4x 60 fts.
Thoughts?

Yes, because the Draglite is a 2-piece wheel. With 2-piece wheels, the NHRA requires the stud has to stick out into lug a certain distance. I don't have my rulebook in front of me, or I'd quote the exact wording. However, to be NHRA legal, you cannot run a 2-piece wheel with Draglites.

Do the longer 7/16ths studs fit our stock axles without any modifications??

I had to have my axle flanges drilled out a little bigger to press in the ARP studs I have. I know ARP makes some "factory replacement" studs with the correct size knurl, that fit with no modification needed, but I don't know what sizes they are available in...

George, what's the matter? Don't like shank lugs anymore? <img src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" border="0" alt="[jester]" />
I think you know where I stand on that topic! <img src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" border="0" alt="[judgement]" />
