I was thinking full steel deck 18 or 20 ft with a dove tail, i see ironworks makes some cool stuff with cool options but hear there built weak, here pj is over priced ect, and im no welder so i dont wana build my own... any advice would be appreciated, figured this would be a good place to ask

I've got a steel diamond plate deck and will never go back to wood. Get the dove tail, it'll help with lower stuff. My trailer is a dove tail and I still have to use ramp extensions to get my truck on it. My truck is very low though, 3" at the front bumper. Without the dove tail, I'd have to haul around 10' ramp extensions. **** that

I have a full steel deck Bri Mar.Dovetail with ramps that store under the deck. It also has removable fenders which have to be removed to open the doors on my Camaro.

I had an 18 foot beaver tail equipped bri-mar and was very happy with it. Towed all over the place with that thing and it never skipped a beat.

If you get the one I had (don't remember model) you didn't need to pull fenders to open doors. Make sure the ramps are the style that hook onto the round bar at the back too, the ones that just have the pins that sit on the deck can get kicked out while loading a car... Ask me how I know.

I'd also recommend a collapseable front leg with a wheel instead of the standard crank, makes moving it around with no car or tow rig (roll it) a lot easier, and folding leg up while towing much easier as well than cranking that thing for 5 minutes. Small tool box on to the with a battery and a winch also a nice addition, also gives you a place to keep straps.

your in buffalo ny go over to lake George area and talk with Bill over at Performance trailers , I have sold tons of his trailers in the boat business and asked him to build me a car trailer about 8 years ago and I love it , pretty much what you described , 20 ft deck , diamond plate , I had him do surge brakes at the time so I could tow it without a controller but then bought a truck with controller a few months later lol. He will custom build to your specs.

The cars in my yard have changed a lot since these pics and the trailer brought them all home lol. you can see its all boxed no open channel crap , rear crossmember notched for header clearance , left middle of deck open to be able to use as a poor mans lift at the track etc..., he dropped the diamond plate from top to bottom of frame rails for the dove tail instead of having a 45* weld , he should have no problem meeting your budget.

I have hauled everything from metal roofing for my camp to moving beds , couches etc.. back and forth to camp , moved sheds ,porches , commercial docks , scrapped cars etc... only replaced tires everything else has held up awesome which is what you get with weld together vs bolt together - no moving parts.Deck over frame construction as well. Let him know I sent you and say hi!

I use a Big Tex 70ch, 18ft with dove tail. No problems at all with the trailer.

I sold literally hundreds of his boat trailers over the last 20 years so mine was pretty much cost of materials due to our relationship so I cant share that but he should be able to build similar within your budget and is as well prepared to do any custom options you may want - we never presented him with a boat we needed a trailer for he couldn't figure out. If I were to have sold my trailer at the time it was built its retail would have been in the 3200-3500 range based on how we marked up his trailers.

I bought my bri-mar when it was a year old, laid 2200 for it with tax, reg. and a spare tire. I added the collapsible front leg to mine, harbor freight had them for under 50 bucks. Worked perfect.

I always like the ironworks trailers but no experience with them! I think maxey make them a gooseneck car hauler. Real low gooseneck trailer is what I want!

What ever you go with be sure to make sure the doors on a F body will clear the fenders. Ive got a POS home made 18ft goose neck and have had to modify to make it work.

My bri-mar cleared with no issues and my car sat low. No removing fender, nothing.
