Default Grant Steering Hub Question

Hey guys, I have searched on here but there are no clear steps on how much to trim the Grant Hub Adapter (Part# 3196) to fit on the steering column. If someone can tell me or show me, that would be awesome. Also I removed my stock wheel and got to the plastic around the column, is that suppose to be left alone or do I take that plastic piece off? Thanks in advance.

P.s. I am leaving some pics of the adapter.

Shouldn't need to trim the 3196 adapter at all. Just the adapter cover and steering column plastic. In total I shaved 1/4-3/8" off steering column and adapter cover.

I used the ribbed grant adapter. Took about 3/8" off the plastic. Install was quick and easy.

Srry, used a 90* with a 1.5" 80 grit wheel on it for the buzzing down the plastic.

You're talking about the plastic that is around the column shaft?

The new hub won't go on with the other hub there, I'd have to get a puller small enough to remove the hub.. I was also told that I had the wrong grant hub adapter.. Says it's 3196 on the package.

You're going to need a small puller and trim the ring. I think my adapter is the 5196 ribbed aluminum one. It's quick and easy you got it. Yes get rid of that plastic clock-spring in your pic

I can't even get to the clock spring because of this hub... Puller doesn't work on it. Any ideas?

It's been a while since I've been into an Fbody steering column, but I don't remember any hub between the steering wheel and the air bag coil. Is that the center of the steering wheel? If so, how on earth did you get the steering wheel off?

That piece that is still on there was supposed to come off with the steering wheel. Your going to need a puller now to get it off. Usually you back off the nut a little, and pull up on the steering wheel with your hands and knees, smack the nut, and it should pop right up. Remove nut and its off.
