Default Anyone Else Pull A Trailer With Their Racecar?

So I finally broke down and got a trailer for the 'vette. Was tired of loading up the car. I was able to stuff the wheels/tires, a few tools, an a chair in , but that was it. No room for any other tools, nitrous bottles, a table, canopy, ect....

parked it between the camper and the garage for now....

Brief mock-up. Going to put another tough box across from the one there. Right now 1 will hold nitrous bottles and the other will hold tools. Going to reinforce the floors of the boxes and U-bolt them to the trailer frame. Also going to mock up a lock bar to go thru the center hub on the wheels to lock them down. A canopy, chairs, ect will go between the tires/wheels and the tough boxes. Might even be room for a big cooler on the *** of the trailer.

I have since cut the hinge off so I could take the ramp off. Going to have the one hinge I cut off flipped and welded back on so I can put the ramp on and off if I need the trailer for other things. Will be picking up another tough box tomorrow and bolting everything down.

I intend for the tongue weight to be at most +/- 50lbs.

Future trailer upgrades include a folding tongue, radial tires, custom cover, and a spare tire. There will be room for 3 or 4 tough boxes if I move the wheels tires and get creative with their placement. Drag week is only 10 months away....

Here is the hitch

I love seeing race cars pulling their own trailers. Last time I was at Sebring there was a guy doing a HPDE with a really high dollar porsche, pulling one of those trailers. This is the first vetted I've seen. How is the hitch mounted to the car?

It is mounted to the rear frame and rear crash bar. 4 bolts total. I need to modify it to properly clear my exhaust. Going to cut the receiver off, slide it back about 1", then weld it back on. Also need to weld on new loops for the chains. Having the Corsa Tiger shark exhaust doesn't leave room for that stuff.

All that trailer needs is a stylish set of wheels. I'm sure someone makes a nice chrome plated wheel that look like torque thrust wheel or something.

I actually had one of the fiberglass closed trailer with cooler on the front that is pulled behind a Honda Goldwing motorcycle painted to match the color of our car that worked perfect behind our F-body. Held extra wheels with drag radials and other racing stuff.

Have both boxes on now - well temporary boxes. I need to either reshape the bottom of 1 end of the nitrous bottle box or get one that is a little bigger so I can fit 4x2 instead of 3x2. Also need to get a larger box for tools...most definitely a larger box for tools....

As it sits now it has a negative tongue weight without the tires on the front. should be very little tongue weight with the tires on it. The tongue is being held down by a cinder block lol.

Still need to fab a locking bar to run thru the center of the wheels.Going to be a steel pipe run inside a PVC pipe (to protect the wheels) that will chain to each side of the trailer. I will still run a ratchet strap thru the center so I can keep them nice and tight.

Looking good so far.

For a 'vette on drag week, I would think a trailer is almost mandatory, its not like you have a lot of interior room.

Where did you get that trailer/what brand?

Same question for the boxes, and are they lockable (with an actual padlock)?

I am really considering a trailer for drag week next year. I would think it makes things easier.

Trailer is from Lowes. the boxes are lockable - with a pad lock. However, I am going to get bigger ones. Also looking at moving the tires to the outside - 1 in front of and 1 behind the fender. This will free up room for other things.

The boxes I am looking at are 2'x4'x2'.

A 'vette with a trailer, always a good look. They already released the tracks for Drag Week 2016, looks like you are already good to go.

A boat dealership I worked at back in the late 90's sold a red 20' Malibu Corvette boat with an ls1 to a guy with a red C5 and he towed the boat on a tandem trailer with his car , over capacity much lol

Next is to fabricate mounts for the slicks on the outside of the trailer. In the 3rd pic you can see the notch in the top rail in front of the fender. Still not 100% certain where I will mount the skinnies.....

Support trucks are not allowed - you cant even have an RV follow you to sleep in - I think they wanna force you to pay for a hotel lol.

Yea, I have some pics of it on facebook.

Soon I will have the tire mounts welded up and the mount for a mother bottle or 2...

Here's my setup I use on Drag Week....

Moved the tongue about 10 inches out. Just made another rearmost cross mount for it. Tongue weight is so much better than before.

HOT ROD Drag Week is the event where street/strip cars are driven 1,000-plus miles on public roads during a trip that includes four dragstrips and five races in five days. The winner in each of the many classes is the car that averages the quickest elapsed time over the five races, and the quickest overall is named HOT ROD's Fastest Street Car in America.

virtually all the cars must carry their own parts/tires, etc and pull their own trailers.

Maybe you can get some ideas there. Or you may even decide to participate.
