Default Need help regarding tires--->

Should I run my car with26X10X15 MT SLICK
OR should I run with a 27X11.5X15 QTP

Do u guys think the 4.10's and the short tire will casue me to not hook?I figure I'll be giving up alittle hook for the better rollout of the QTP?
26 VS 27???

And if I do keep the 26in Slick do u think I'll cross below 6800 on the it and 4.10 combo?

What trap speed do you anticipate? What converter?

JS I think you'll hook best on 315 nitto drag radials. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

With your power I think you will have trouble hooking w/ 26"ers and 4.10's, but I wouldn't do QTP's either. I would do 28x9x15 ET drags, they are only 27.3" tall.

Shifting at 6800, the 26"ers will have you going through the traps between 6400-6600. The 28x9's are going to cut you down to somewhere in between 6100-6300, but you should 60' much better or at least more consistently. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

BTW, my rpm guesstimates do not take converter slippage into consideration.

28x9 inch Hoosier slicks or ET Drags hands down. QTP's wont hook for **** at your power level. 26's will be ok but will become marginal faster than the 28's

Can I fit a 28X9 under my car without it hitting
the sides of my 1/4 panels?

I saw the pic of Fireballs car and the tire is millimeters away from the lip.Under tire growth I'd be scared it might rub?

Will the 28X9 fit?

Fireball's tire is wider than 9 inches. You will have no problems. May need to roll the inner fenderwell lip. (5 minutes work tops)

I recall having an abundance of room.

I trapped 121mph no problem.

I had some sway at the big end, tires were at 11-12 psi which felt a bit low.

JS, mine are no where close to rubbing, but they were DAMN close before I shortened my LCAs. the wheels weren't centered in the wells (every pontiac I've seen was like this) so I shortened the LCA 1/2" to bring it in dead center <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

my vote, 28x9 slick <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I'm going with Hoosier 28x10x15s <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

You guys have me worried. I just bought 26x10x15's. Guess I could always sell them if they don't work and go with 28's.

Chris a 9in tire going 170 is rediculous.Most NSCA cars run a W tire of somekind.No one runs a 9in slick trapping 170MPH.

George the T/A needs alot more work to fit a 28X10 since it has a body panel at the edge of the low 1/4 panel.

Fireball I agree I can buy adj. comtrol arms and center the wheel. Not a bad idea but I'm concerned about geometry.

I think 28x9 is the way to go.

Personally, I wouldn't trade my 28x10.5's for anything (well, maybe a 30" tire). The 28x10.5 measures a true 28" height, as opposed to the 28x9's measured height of just over 27".

However, a lot of folks aren't interested or willing to do the clearancing to run a taller tire. I'm about to do some trimming to my bumper cover and see if I can fit something a little bigger than I have now...

Ironically I am hooking a bit better after shortening my LCAs. but I don't know the exact implications of shortening them. Biggest concerns:

1) Pinion angle
2) driveshaft length

I don't think shock angles change too drastically since they are fairly long

Joel -

You can also pull that rear bumper cover back, but drilling a small hole in it, and using wire to pull it back, follow me? My buddy did it to clear the 28x11.5x15 ET Streets on his 99WS6.
