Track prep can vary by track, but since you are so serious I would invest in a set of front HAL/QA1 12 way drag shocks. When your track is that inconsistent, you just have to work with it.

Unless those 28's are too old or hard, you should hook great.

I'd run them 14 psi before the burnout, and get some drag shocks and run them at 2/2 in the front.

I did this with 26x11.5x15 ET Streets and cut a 1.51 with them, in January.

I tightened up the front shocks to 3/3 and spun on the next two passes but still went 1.54-1.55 with five feet of wheel spin.

You probably need a spotter too to help you figure out what you need to correct.

And the track isn't inconsistent. It's consistently slick. I'm cutting high 1.5X's to very low 1.6X's on average with 26" Et Streets, but when I was there, I couldn't do better than 1.7X's. And I do have hals etc. and tried all kinds of combinations.

The only cars that run well there are either cars that don't make a lot of power and can hook on drag radials, or cars that make good power AND have 12"+ wide slicks. And even they're out of control alot.

That sucks Terry.
I was going to suggest bringing your own VHT, but someone else beat me to it.
I use 16 PSI in my 28" e.t. Drags. (cold)

The newer tires would be a plus. (IMO)

Carlsbad sucks!

Not only do tracks vary, but so does prep at the supposedly really 'good' tracks.

At VMP Friday night, I set the car on 'kill', cause the air was REALLY good. 3300 lb raceweight, and 26x10 slicks (not DR's - slicks) with 10-11 psi. Only made two passes. Why? The first pass netted a 2.08 60 ft. That was with a 'lazy' 5500 rpm launch, which is where I normally drop the load on DR's. Second pass I lowered it to 5000 rpm (the car SHOULD have bogged horribly). I actually had a 1.71 60 ft (still bad), but I almost lost it in both 2nd and 3rd gear, so I shut down.

Car went back on the trailer, and I went home. Lesson learned about VMP on cold Friday (street) nights. Such is the way it goes sometimes.

Bob cosby.I know what you mean about friday night at VMP.But i think alot of the problem is all the imports and street tire cars draging all the water up to the line. When i pulled to the line i could see the glare from the water. If you remember me i was the guy with the red ram air T/A that was behind you in line.I ended the night with a 12.8 @allmost 111 mph.with just a lid and removing the stock filter and this was on the eagle f1's John.

Do they even use VHT?

Locally, our regional car club (MFBA) rents out US41 like 5 times a year. We typically VHT from the waterbox, all the way about 200 ft from the starting line. Costs $100-200.

Maybe you folks need to pay more and get more out of it.

I feel bad for you guys but if the track is too cheap for spring for track bite maybe you need to bring it and work it out with them, or do some private track rentals.

I have had inconsistent traction at GLD, mostly do to the moisture coming off the corn fields at nite... If it gets back I typically just leave.

No, afraid I can't go this weekend. It's Spring Break for the kids, so we've got plans. Also, next weekend is the NMRA race in Georgia, and I have to get ready for that.

Good luck to ya!
