John do you think that weighing place will be open saturday, I am going to go over to Izzo's so Brian can adjust a gear ratio option for me...I heard the place does it for free?

Macgyvers T/A with basically the same things done that I have done weighed in at 3410 w/ a 1/4 tank of gas and a TH400 + 9" He has the front bumper support out though...so I figure my car will weigh around 3420 with out me, and since I'm 250 its going to weigh around 3670 with me in it...and thats with the back seats out/spare tire jack...and I still haven't done the front sway bar...

That really sucks! I told you that Sanders hid some lead in your car

Your car weighs 135 lbs more than mine, and I still have all four leather seats, full A/C, T-tops, rollcage, 12-bolt, and nothing removed.

You might want to invest in some lightweight mods

Here's my Terry Burger-not-caring-who-I-****-off-reply: John don't be a hater because Nineball is out E.T'ing you with less cubes, M6, full interior including the A/C.

9" is good to 2000 HPCan we say overkill? I doubt your car will be making anywhere close to that, last time I checked you were in the 460 rwhp, which IMO is still pretty low for a 422 c/i

the iron block is for the occasional nitrous Wow, 200 lbs for the occasional nitrous use . Haven't seen you use any yet, if you did maybe you'd finally pass some H/C cars and break into the 10's. Also I remember you saying that you traded in your M6 SS for the firebird because it was a hardtop and therefore lighter. T-Top Option adds 12# I believe, but the SS hood is fiberglass whereas your hood is steel, so that would pretty much cancel the weight savings, oh yeah forgot about those darn pop up headlights, they add a good 30# to the car.

Ouch! a bit harsh, but valid points Speeddemon.

I've already told John to get rid of that Iron (Lead?) motor. The 9" is pretty useless as well unless he is running deep into the 9s or if you like to swap gear ratios alot.

John bought the iron motor because it was CHEAP! There is nothing wrong with saving money, as long as you accept the trade off. I for one will not be installing my iron block motor any time soon.

SpeedDemonZ28, I was kidding in my last post to you sorry if I got you mad.

My 4.060 LQ4 with the 4.075 stroke crank is a neat and cheaper way to hit big cubes. I don't worry about dropping sleeves. I also personally would never spray a resleeve motor because with my luck I would have problems.

LQ4 adds about 75 lbs to my carweight.

But I have a better clamping surface with less distortion from heat expansion = LT1 style durability. Iron blocks can handle more detonation. Maybe even more cylinder pressure but who knows at this point.

My 9" possibly 50 lbs heavier than stock, but only about 20 heavier than a 12 bolt. But I can install multiple center sections.

Guido is dead on, my current setup is all about durability and reliability.

My 12 bolt was 42lbs heavier, scale confirmed. I just took 17lbs out with the spool. At 25lbs heavier, damn good upgrade.

A ford 9" with 31 spline drilled axles, an alum case, and a spool is probably only 20# heavier than a 10 bolt I bet... hmmm...

First of all the iron motor is 65-75 pounds TOPS over an alum in weight.
200 pounds is ridiculous.
He bought it because it was a cheaper alternative to alum and will have less POTENTIAL issues on the spray.
The 9 inch is also cheaper than a 12 bolt. I think the weight difference is pretty small though between the 12 bolt and nine inch. The big problem with the nine inch is the offset pinion which eats a bit of power. You can always buy an alum centersection and lightweight gears as well.

Third, if he was running a lockup and stock rear he would dyno in the 480+ range easy. Comparitive to other superstrokers out there. I find it hard ot figure out where all the ballast is in his car. That cage contributes some too but the iron block is 65-75 pounds heavier period.
Cheers,
Chris

Damn whats so bad about some DURABILITY?

I for one would be DAMN SCARED to run a 10 bolt at JOhn's power level. And the iron block isnt a bad mod if he plans more power down the road.

Guido 86 Camaro

-Dart block
-Ford 9"
-Full cage

not 3700 pounds

Hey John, Screw the weight reduction at this point.
Why don't you add another 75lbs in the form of a blower or turbo?
Just drop the compression a tad and your car is all ready for some real FULL TIME Hp.
Not to be a smartass, but I run faster and make about 100hp more than you with only 2.73 gears, puny 2800 stall, 346 cubes, full weight TA because I am supercharged.
Heck a built 422 iron block, 9" rear and good trans is just begging for a 750hp motor.I know it's a lot more cash but your going to kill it on the spray sooner or later.
It would be a nice mid 9 sec car once tuned and you won't ever have to gut it and make it look like somebody just removed it from the junkyard and put a set of draglites on it.
