Default HP needed for 120 mph trap speed?

Hey dudes,

about how much HP (at the wheels) do you think it takes for 120+ MPH trap speeds (in an LS1 F-body)?

Just curious....

It depends on a lot of things. for instance RAGEman and I have both trapped over 120 mph in our bolt M6's. he just dynoed this past weekend and made 360 rwhp and 376 rwtq.

Our cars are VERY light though. in a full weight car expect to be making over 400 rwhp to get those trap speeds.

How light are your cars and how extensive is your weight reduction...every piece down to the door panels?

I have a 99SS A4 with HP of 387 @ rear wheels. The fastest I have gone is 115.53 or so for the 1/4. My car is total weight except for spare tire and jack. Kept tank full of gas because of traction problems on Nittos. However, with skinnies on and lighter wheels with tires, 1/4 tank full of gas, cutout opened, timing tricker, and fine tunning, I believe the car can run somewhere between 117-119. If all conditions are right such as weather and little more weight reduction, I may could touch 120 on an auto. I know the 6 spd's always seem to trap more. I hope this helps you on your question.

Stock weight (3,650) WS6, M6, 3:73's good driver = 408hp at 6,000 390tq at 4,800 on a 2.0 60' mark is 120.10 and 95 MPH at the 1/8, this is what we have found consistantly with a decent DA, hope that helps?

Thanks for the all the replies, guys So I guess I can conclude that around 400 RWHP and some weight reduction mods (and a good launch, good traction , etc.) would get 120 mph trap speeds

Cool.

I might have been a little under 3300 but I am not totally sure. RAGEman trapped 121 and his car weighed right at 3180 or so with him in it
