Please explain ET and MPH

I know what they are and mean, since I have been down the track over 50 times.
Some people look at my MPH and can tell right away that I am having traction problems off the line, how?
My best was a 12.49 @ 114
Some say I should be a low 12 with a 114 MPH trap speed. I do have a M6 and running Nitto drag radials at 20 PSI. I am still practicing the launches though.
Is there like a rule of thumb guideline some where?
Example: If you got 108 MPH you should be xx.x ET or if you have a 12.8 you should have xxx.xx MPH

GO to your local speed shop and ask for a MOROSO SLIDE RULER. About 10 dollars. It is like a hand held computer, but its only a slide rule. Hard core drag racers have been using them for many years. If you slide the arrow over too 114 mph then look up to the 1/4 mile speed it shows a 11.51 that would be the fastest your car could possibly run at 114 mph. mph is horsepower on the 1/4 mile track, now if you optmize that hp like (GEARS & TRACTION ) your ET will drop, the more you do to optomize the two , the more your ET will drop. Thats why they are saying for that mph your et should be much lower. I run 12.50 at 107 on a 1.70 60ft my best et for 107 mph would be a 12.20 if i went to a higher stall converter. I hope this helps.

I think what they look at is your 60 foot time. From that is what makes or brakes your run. I see you run 2.159 in the 60 this is what they see when they tell you that you have no traction. Some of the fastes cars run 1.4 to 1.5 in the 60.

You really need to get that 60 ft down, get some sticky tires and you will pick up some MPH and ET... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Billium, I know what you are talking about. More than likely, a person who knows what our cars can run and at what mph, would be able to look at your ET and MPH and could tell if you were having traction problems, even without seeing your 60 foot time. I could have told you that you were having traction problems and I really don't know a lot about drag racing. I only am able to tell you that from seeing a lot of ETs and MPHs posted on this board and seen at the drag strip. Just from reading the top 25 on this board will give you some idea. Most of those guys are getting every bit of ET out of there MPH.
Then, if it's real obvious, like 12.2 @ 122 mph, it's a no brainer. 122 mph is good for low low 11s in an M6 LS1. In an A4 it should definitely be good for high 10s. I don't know if the same rules hold up for other types of cars? I'm sure it's close to the same though.

ET= how well you can hook your power
MPH= how much power you make
I ran 11.1@121mph last year at 3700 raceweight, that is about right. That is with a 1.53 60, and on a ET Street.
Now with a drag radial, and an M6, I'd say it would have been more like a 11.9@124mph on like a 1.8 60 ft.
I went 11.75@114mph with an A4 and heads and cam, on a 1.57 60. on DR's I went 12.1 on a 1.7 rolling out really easy.
