What gears to run
What gears to run Car set up stock ls1 with rod bolts and oil pump ms4 cam 239 242 649/600 Moser 9 inch 35 spline axles spool with 4.71s 28in slick. Rpm is building a th400 with break. Coan just speced out a 8 inch converter 4500 on motor so 150 shot off line said would be around 5000. Wondering what gear to run , been thinking 3.90 or 4.10 with my faceplated t56 I ran out of 4th gear in quarter I was leaving at 5000 rpm two step off line with clutch
What mph do you or are you planning on running in the quarter on the bottle? What is your max rpm you are willing to turn the engine? Are you still going to run 28's? Lastly, what will be the approximate efficiency loss of your converter going through the traps? I would assume 5-6% N/A and around 10% on the bottle.
Use a tire/speed calculator to figure out how to move maximum power rpm towards the top MPH you expect to see by moving the gearing. Then, decide how much headroom you want for more power (MPH) and add it back in.
