Default Best trans for NA ls7?

Ive been thinking about switching to a auto recently and wondering what would be the most efficient trans to look into. I have a t56 now and while its fun and im pretty consistent with it im afraid if I start getting more serious I might break it and they juss cost too much for that lol. The car makes around 540 whp now and Ive had it to the track once this year since I dont abunch of small changes and ran 6.90's-10.70's with 1.6 60's. What's your guys thoughts on what direction I should go?

Doesn't see much highway at all occasional trip around town but mostly under 45 mph cruising. Im not looking into a overdrive trans honestly. Ive read some different threads juss trying to get some more ideas. Im actually picking up a ptc rmvb th400 friday pretty cheap figure it would be a good one to try and see if I like the auto. Id eventually like to put a few better parts in it and a 2nd gear leave trans brake vb. Any other opinions? Car currently has a 4.30 gear in it I know I should probably change that ive played with the gear tire calculator some anybody else have any god info on about a 500whp car as to what works and what doesn't.

Yeah me too. If your goals are to be much slower than with an automatic. Oh and if you're a millionaire and love pulling that t56 out regularly.

T56 is fun but they juss cost alot and id rather not break the one I have I actually have it and my factory t56 and am keeping them both for later on if I want to put one back in I juss think its in my best interest to put a auto on at the moment.

The 3 speed 400 will definitely post better and more consistent times than the 6spd. Also hold up better if built right, not to mention easier on the rest of the driveline. I don think you have enough power or light enough for you power to benefit from the 2 speed 400. Just my opinion and im still trying to use a 4l60 (th400 going in when this one quits).

Well I ended up getting that ptc th400 for a good deal so that settles that, I have a shifter already so juss going to run this t56 a little longer while I get some more stuff foe the swap. What brand converters you guys like I know some locals use fti and seem to like them, haven't heard anything bad about ptc either.

2.1/1.4 Th400 and put a 4.30 rear gear in it. If you're only doing a little cruising around it will be fine.

I would do that, or a 4l80 if you have to have overdrive.... sticking with that t56 will do nothing but drain your wallet and turn your hair grey. They don't stay together when racing, and if it is, you're not driving a stick car right to have it go fast.

Actually I already have a 4.30 gear in it. I seen theres quite a few different gear sets you can get for a 400 but not sure how much that would cost.

They're more expensive and the lower the first gear is the higher they get. The 2.1/1.4 is a good compromise to split the ratio's up and get good rpm drop back on the shifts, and it's just enough first gear reduction so that you will be able to use everything you can right out of the gate, and help stop the car from wanting to stand up.

If you have a 4.30 in it I would start with that, it's a decent starting place for an n/a car. I wouldn't be shocked to see a 4.56 end up working better though.

Yeah I've read some stuff over on yellow bullet seems like a good route to go so ill keep it in mind once I run this one for a little while and want to upgrade some internal parts.

Sounds like the best idea to start with what I got and go from there, on another note I've been doing some weighing of this th400 and of my other factory t56 I have and I think I might actually loose some weight going to the th400.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you can get one light. I would recommend the Reid case and bell right away so no shield is needed, and start off with an aluminum direct drum, do the clean neutral coan valve body and associated shifter, as it's a light unit as well, and of the budget allows an alum pump as it will save another good bit of weight.

You will be at a 5500 TH400 at that point but in the overall scheme it will be a good investment and not have to worry about another one, probably ever.

I still have my 6 speed. Broke it once several years ago, now I have a viper shaft among other upgrades. Even after all these years I still suck at launching so now I mostly bog off the line. I use drag radials and never tried slicks which seem to be the ticket for manuals. I settle for 1.9 or worse 60 foot times and mostly run 11.0 to 11.4 times. Way more fun than an automatic but much slower and more expensive. At the same time it's very frustrating.

Kingsize - I don't remember seeing info on your car but very impressive.
