Lightbulb Fbody heads up racing

I have reached a point where I am flat out tired of bracket racing. To me it is just boring now. I have been talking to some of the guys that run MHRA (Mustang Headsup racing association) class cars and I must say I am truely impressed. For the mods in the cars and the times they are running and how exciting it is to watch them, it all makes me want a peice of it my self. I am ready to go out and pick up a fox body stang and join in on the fun. That is unless we can have a little fun of our own.

The MHRA class I have been paying attention to is Factory stock. I am watching these guys take cars with barely any mods into times where a car like that shouldn't be.....or maybe should??? I want to answer back for the lack of heads up racing in the Fbody community. I was wondering if any of you guys would be interested in a few different budget minded heads up racing classes.

I know next I am going to get the "but in bracket it's all equal and everyone has a fair chance". My answer to that is in a class like the ones I am thinking of it won't take much to be competitive and "equal". Since it is a budget minded class you won't go bankrupt trying to build a class car either. once you hit the limits of mods it all comes down to driver, much like bracket racing. Major difference is the excitement. being 3/4s through the quarter and being nose to nose with someone knowing anything can happen can really get your blood pumping. You can go all out without the fear of breaking out. It's true racing at it's fullest.

I have been working on some brief outlines for some rules to give you guys a general idea as for what to expect so I can get some good honest opinions. Mind you, these are a very brief general outline for 3rd gens and LS1 cars.

You should check out some of the other forums on this site. There is already a grassroots F-Body racing effort. There has been two races this year already, a third one planned for later August and a 4th in November.

Check that stuff out! Welcome to the board.

Welcome to the site, we do have a heads up racing series that we are trying to get started this year. We are also working on a class similar to Ford Factory Stock, for the less hardcore guys.

Stick around, we can make this happen!

Josh,

The first thing that you need to know is that there is no such thing as inexpensive heads-up racing!!

I have been reading these boards for about a year now. Seems as if all my friends post here like mad. I never really made an acount because I own a 3rd gen and know i can not afford a 4th gen. So needless to say I have kept an eye on the situation of your little grassroots racing. I like what you guys have been working with. I am jsut trying to target the largest FBody crowds I can think of. Maybe we can all work together and make something good out of this?

As I've stated many times, would be really neat to see this get going.

XJOSHX....one quick suggestion. Keep in mind how a rule is be to be teched when thinking about rules. Example....how do you tech a stall converter for its stall speed? Pretty hard to do.

What about LT1 cars? It would be cool to see F-body racing take off like Mustang racing , but I dont think it will ever happen to that extent.

just from the looks of it...the L98 cars could be 12-13sec cars and the ls1 stuff would be in the 11's. plus, bob is right...hard to tech a converter. well...kinda. if you could lock it in 3rd (1:1) you could get a close brake stall. I'd just keep an eye on the event currently happening and try to get the word out for 3rd gens and see if they can squeeze in some 3rdgen classes.

OR

Buy a mustang and really race.
