Default Shoulder harness to seat angle

Hey guys long time lurker and I think first time posting. I'm installing a Kirkey seat and harness along with a cage. I am currently

mocking up the cage and have run into a bit of a grey zone. I am on the tall side (6'6") so my shoulders sit above the hole for the harness to pass through. From what I understand NHRA requires the harness bar to be no higher than shoulder height and no Lower than 4 inches down. When I am in the seat with the harness on and mounted roughly where it will sit the seat interferes with the angle of the belt. I know there are some tall guys running similar set ups , what would be the best/safest way of making this work. I know it's all about the angle of the shoulder belts pulling down, however I don't know if it's safe to have them contact the seat. I have attached some crude pict

Is your seat bolted straight to the floor? It really looks like you are going to have to modify the seat and cut some slots higher up. I'm going to be going through this very soon and I'm 6'4". Wrapping the belt around the bottom of the bar will help lower the angle but it still doesn't look like that will help with the slot location on the seat. Heres a link with the proper safety mounting angles. http://www.sfifoundation.com/wp-cont...2006-05-12.pdf

thanks for the reply. The seat is bolted to the floor as far down as it will go. Unfortunately it is the length of my upper body that is causing the issue, when a smaller driver sits in the same set up everything is within spec. I think you're on the right page with the idea that the belt holes need to come up some. Of course that means removing material from seat itself which isn't the most ideal decision.

I had to raise my seat belt holes in kirkey setup. But also has to shorten as it was just about hitting the roof. What ever you cut out, just weld, or get welded back on the bottom so the hole is the same size

Yep modify the seat. Definitely don't want the shoulder straps pulling down on you with that angle, unless you want to become shorter permanently!

do you have a picture of your modified seat? sounds pretty straight forward just curious as to what it looks like when all said and done.

ya that seems like the direction it's headed. Although being permanently shorter sounds nice, I don't think that's the best way to do it haha.

awesome work. Is there a spec or rule for the height of the seat in regards to the drivers head? I can't remember seeing one but that definitely seems safer.

I don't remember seeing one. I had to cut mine to clear my roll cage. This is in a 240z

Honestly, I doubt tech will even notice this year since it's not out of place
