What does it cost to have your rear end narrowed besides the cost of new axles? How much work is involved in narrowing each side by 2 inches?

Would it be easier to sell your current rear and order a new one narrowed if you are just going basic with the rear end? No upgrades, just spool, 33 spline etc?

If it isn't too expensive I'd consider narrowing just enough to be able to use everything. (parking brake, stock LCA mounts etc)

I have convo pros on the car now but would love to be able to go to a 15x10 convo pro and have it tuck nicely under the car.

How much cutting do you have to do for a 29in tire. I need some pics of this if possible. I am in the process of needing this. I am trapping 142 in the 1/4 now. I have a 12 bolt. I can't go higher in gear (3.42) and keep a spool. So I need to go to a 29in tire.

BTW, does anyone know how fast you can go with a 29in tire and a 3.73 gear????????

That all depends on rpm limit/shift points. Post up your rev limit and i'm sure one of us will spit out the number for ya. otherwise do a google search on "1/4 mph gear calculator" or something like that and then you can bookmark the page with the calculation.

I am limiting it to 7000 right now. I shift at 67-6800. I have a PI 4000 stall that is pretty damn tight. It shouldn't be slipping on the big end to much.

well if it were locked up completely like a manual trans car:

29" tire, 3.73's, 7000rpm limit is about 162 mph.

Now with the automatic and the slipping of the converter, it would be less mph than that. It's hard to tell though as the calculator doesn't equate converter slippage into the equation, so maybe 5-10mph less?

Equate the slippage yourself...

If you figure 8% slippage, and a max engine rpm of 7000, the converter slippage would make your output shaft rpm 6440rpm. Do the speed calculation off of that number...

As far as narrowing the rear, the going price seems to be in the $200-300 range including new housing ends... I'm planning on switching from my 15x10 7.5" BS wheels to 15x10 5.5" BS, and narrowing the rear around 3" perside to tuck my 29.5x10.5 tires up under the car so I can bring the ride height down a bit.

Nothing is sexier than a race car tucking some tire. I've been thinking about doing the same thing. I'm running Good Year 30x10.5 right now.

Also its good to see your still alive George, I modeled my car after yours.

Even if you take out 2 or 3 inches from the axle, you will get so many backspacing choices that you can tuck almost any model of rim up in there comfortably. I just put in 15x10 on a 5 in there with a 28 x 10.5W as well as a 29 x 10.5W. It looks pretty killer.

Lee, do you have any pics of your Goodyears on the car?

No pics yet, I'm racing this weekend and will get some pics of the car at the track. I just put them on last week, I've always used MT 29.5 x 10.5 ET Drags. I'll tell you what though I LOVE the way the Good Years look on the car. They got the yellow letters, now I have to get matching fronts!

Oh yea, at my local track (which sucks *** for traction) I cut a new best 60' for that track. I usually average 1.42 60', and first night out with the Good Years I went 1.39 60'. Can't wait to see how much harder I can launch at a really good track where I cut 1.32 - 1.36 60' with the MT's

What compound are those? I know they actually offer like 4 or 5 compounds for almost every size. Or did you just order the off the shelf one from Summit or something like that?

Mine are the D5's. I love to get D6's but the smallest I could get was like 31 x 14.5. When I do a mini tub someday thats what I'll run.

WOW that isn't too bad at all!

hmmm, as far as axles, if you narrow the rear 1.5 inches per side do you just order custom 1.5 inch shorter axles per side from Moser/strange or is their more to it?

With my setup (narrowed 9", removed spring perch, stock springs) I still wish my ride height was lower in the rear. Whoever has lowered their's let me know what springs you used that didn't hurt your launch.

THANKS

Eric

The axles are the same ones you currently have. They just shorten them and extend the splines.

Billingsley carries a spring that can help lower the car. I'll let you know how well it launchers here very soon.
