Weight reduction plans Post cage install :)
What is the weight of a 5 point chromeoly cage vs 6 point?
I am going with dual swingouts and weld in.
Is 80 pounds a reasonable guess?
I need to know how much weight I have to remove to offset the weight of the cage
Thinking about the following:
K-Member, A-Arms: 44 pounds
dynabatt: 18 pounds
Remove ABS module: 9-12 pounds I think
lighter rims and slicks: ~30 pounds
The above will put me in at ~24 pounds lighter after cage approximately.
After that the only other things I can think of doing are:
pass airbag: ~15 pounds
Front and rear bumper supports: ~35 pounds
Front half of carpet (sound deadening):~10 pounds
and a bolt on VFN stock style hood: 25 pounds additional weight savings: 85 pounds
Total weight savings: 109 pounds after cage
Anything else I am missing? How do I make those custom seat brackets etc and how much weight do they save?
If I plan this right I should be close to 124mph trap speeds with a good DA and automatic tranny!
If I can get the 60's in the 1.50 range tens should be there.
Thanks!
Chris

hmm, ten pounds is a fair bit of savings from a bracket, might be an idea
I am running out of **** to remove too. After the stuff I mentioned above there isnt much left. I dont want to be without tunes
I think I may look at throwing in a 99+ plastic gas tank, that is 18 pounds lighter than the metal one I think

Terry...what do you mean for the seat brackets?
I'd think a 5-point CM cage would only be about 60-65 pounds. Where are you getting it done? How much is it? I am getting ready to cut out the cage I did (don't think it'll pass tech at a REAL track). I'll be looking to replace it eventually after I get to Ohio.
ARE has a chassis guy that makes the cages custom in chromeoly. I'll get the information for you
I am probably going to do a five point chromeoly with swingout on the drivers side. that will probably be the lightest I can get away with.

Chris
