Default OK what do you guys think?

Well, since it looks like I won't be getting the engine that I have been waiting on, for over 11 months . I think I am gonna do some thing different. I think I'll take the 5.3 litre block I've got, bore to 3.90 to achive 346 ci's, stick some 14.5 to 1 pistons in it, good pistons and rods, and spray it until some thing comes through the hood. I will of course be adding a set of ported heads to the picture, a cam as big as a house, along with my speed pro set up for engine manegment duties. The rest of the car rounds out like this : Turbo 400(4500 rpm converter), BMR every thing, wolfe rear sway bar, moser 9 with 456's and a spool, 2 NX gemini twin kits, and a cage that certs to 7.49. BTW, the car comes in around 200 pounds lighter than when it went 10.30. What do you guys think should I see how fast a stock displacement LS1 will go or do I save my pennies and go turbo? I am just feeling very impatient right now with the screwing that I have taken and would really like to get to the track and break some s**t.

i dont care what you do, just get it done

Hey i saw you up at speedtek today, i was in a hurry though.

can I ask you where you got that wiring block deal that was on the camaro a while back?

I say spray. you'll just never see the times you want with the turbo without a lot of time and tuning.

Ryan, When I say turbo, I mean as in I have been reading a bunch of mustang magazines. Pro 5.0 type stuff, like thumper single turbo set ups with custom piping and intercoolers and what not. I have the speed pro and Kenny tran is willing to help me get her all dialed in. I think I am going to go for the quick fix and squeeze it for now, but a serious turbo set up is in my thoughts for the future. We finally dynoed a car today for the first time at the new shop, with the the wideband no less. What time were you in? Oh, and the block came from Fry's.

Sean we both know that you love to spray enough gas to kill small animals. Screw the turbo setup for now. You've had great success w/ the N2O, and I think you should ride it into the 9's. It's about damn time that the pewter car comes back to life, and it wouldn't be right unless you had a dual stage setup on it. Bore the hell out of the 5.3L, and go have some fun!

BTW, I'm glad to hear that the dyno w/ wideband is up and running. I came by last week (James' last day), but you weren't there yet. When do ya normally get there?

Why not start with a 5.7L block Sean? I vote on the nitrous, cause you know it would end up on the car if you got a turbo anyways. What would you have to purge and get the crowd going after your burnout

I came in around 10:45 or 11. I saw you come in and right back out, but we left pretty quick (just picking up a purge).

I'll have to go check out Fry's when I seriously rewire this NX kit. Need a new fuel solenoid first though.

Oh yeah, I pretty much knew you meant 88mm or bigger when you said turbo, but then you'd be down for like another year, so I say spray.

Ryan

Thanks for the input guys, I think I already knew what yall would say. I guess I just needed it pounded into my head. I just want to get back in the game, it's just not any fun with out my car running.Trev, I get in around 9 - 9:30. Nick, I want to go cast iron and I've alredy got this block lying around. It should be good enough to put together and try to melt. Larry, I'll try to get her together so I can come down to H town a visit. I'll be down in October for a paintball tournament somewhere in Pearland belive it or not.

Ah oh look out he's back,

I've seen the video's of your twin purges and we all know how you love the gas, I vote spray. I see you got the dyno up that's great, now just get the edit and let's figure out how to unlock you know who's tuning and tweak this beast, I know it's got more in it. I found the best price on the NX kits, I'm gonna wait until we come back from vacation when it's real hot and I'll need it, then I'll let you have it for awhile to get me on the bottle too.

If you really want a good turbo person you should talk to Job Spetter Jr. He is the **** when it comes to tuning a turbo car with Speedpro setups. I have seen him do it in person in about 1 hour and pick up over 150 ponies on a turbo LT1 Impala from Louisiana. I say spray it now blow it later

I say spray it now nad go turbo later. In the end you will go faster with a turbo but they can be a pain to set up.Last year a good freind of mine went from running low 11s @ 124 with gas and then he MADE his own turbo setup with stock shorty headers turned around and a powerstroke intercooler and a t60 turbo. Then he called Job spetter and bought a DFI settup over the phone with a base program from job and it ran perfect on the street.

Oh i allmost forgot it ran 10.00 @ 140 on {stock shortblock} 26/8 ET streets on its first pass.Now it runs 9.1s @ 155mph on drag radials.

Spray it, don't LS1's have a problem with lifting heads when alot of boost is put to them. I say let someone else solve that issue before you have to deal with it.

If you are building a iron motor go with a 6L block and sonic test it to see how much you can overbore it
That will give 365-375 ci with stock crank. You could throw in a offset ground crank for even more cubes. Then spray the bejesus out of it
Cheers,
Chris

Hey Sean, get that beast running before the Thunder event and roll out there with us. You KNOW you love that bottle, so go for it!

Solid roller Iron block 346ci on the bottle

I know the turbo set up would be faster in the end, but you guys want the same thing I do: instant gratification .he he, Brian you've got to let me put it back together before you can challenge me again. Hell, you won the first go around what more could you ask for .

Turbo. Hands down. Obviously you have never been to a Mustang race. Between rounds the NOS guys are pulling plugs, possibly replacing pistons. The turbo guys, playing with the laptop and filling their coolers

I don't know how much power you are wanting to make, but turbos are the way to go. Also, why not go to a Mustang shop to get the turbo stuff?? If you are getting a sway bar from Wolfe, you need to talk to him. Most likely, your convertor is junk along with that tranny. He could get you the DFI with a tune in it, turbo, PG with a GOOD convertor, etc.. You need to pick a shop and stick with it.

Your in the heart of Texas and wanting to spray ??!?!?! YOUR CRAZY!!

I agree wiht Scott here. PUT A DAMN TURBO ON IT

Scott is EXACTLY right. Turbo motors are very easy on the internals. Id be willing to bet MONEY on the fact that your turbo motor could run the same times as the nitrous and be very conservative and easier on your engine at the same time. Then twist a **** and youve got more power.

Wake up and see what the fast Mustang guys are doing. There are tons of resources for it in Texas too.

I took the turbo power leap myself.

in my heart i say go turbo......but you have a LS1 and if i were you i wouldn't want to re-invent the wheel and try to figure out how to keep the heads on an LS1

just face it, the LS1s love spray and people have used them with success.

SPRAY THE PIG
