Question light weight baterrie options??

Im in the process of put the Camaro in a diet without giving out the AC and stereo. The car still be drive daily. My car is a factory stripper no power of any kind so that saved me some work. Weight 3320 with 1/4 of gas tank. My goal is to loose like 100 to 125 pounds. This week i going to install a new tranny Performabuild 60e with Yank 9.5" in there i think is like 10lbs of saving considering that i still have the factory torque converter. I going to install at the same time a Bmr KM another 30 lbs saved.
Now the car have a optima red battery and was looking for mini battery to save few more pounds. So i came across this battery in ebay (Kinetik HC600 600 Watt Car Audio High Current Power Cell/Battery) weight only 12lbs.
Any of you have used this battery for drag racing? I don't care if have to use it only the track.

Many people switched to the Odyssey PC680 which only weighs 6lbs. It'll start your LS1 without a problem. I picked up a slightly larger odyssey battery but mainly because I had already relocated it to the rear of the car and it had to crank over the 2 gauge cable running from back to front.

17lbs.....did you just make the 6 pounds number up?

OP, Im running an XS power battery similar to the odyssey and have been pleased with it. You can find my pics starting here at page 5 and continuing on for several pages, down to around the 2900lb range.

Basically any lead acid battery that can adequately crank you car is gonna be 12/14-18 pounds-ish. Can get a lithium for 5 or less if you trust that technology and have the dough to spend. There is no free cake, you are taking a hit in reserve capacity in exchange for smaller size and weight. You can stretch this too far and create an issue.

Yes 01ssreda4 i have been following your complete build. I saw your XS and small coolant tank. I have in watch on ebay a XS battery.

For info. i took some time this morning to do some home work and see how much a Optima Red top weight and the scale read 30.0 lbs. So use a XS battery is 15lbs of out of the car.

I took the UMI tunnel mount TA with DL and the DL/bracket with 14.2lbs the arm another 16.0lbs a total of 30.2lbs. Going to add the information now in the weight saving list.

I think i going to buy a XS.

If it's a 9lb lead acid it isn't gonna have much reserve capacity or cca. Doesn't mean it won't start your car it just won't do anything else and it may only give you a few seconds of cranking time.

Are there any lightweight batteries that would work in a street car with an alternator....or would it be best to stay conventional in that scenario?

Also, for strictly a drag, but with an alternator, are there any lightweight batteries out there that would work without having to deal with charging between rounds?

I use a Braille 21lb battery. It's half the weight of my "street" battery and can go "rounds" no problem. It's not the lightest but it cranks the car over every time no problem.

If you get a lithium ion battery, GET A CHARGER. And if you have an issue just tell them it is in an ATV.

That's all.

Never had a problem with my lithium battery and I don't have a charger. I even left my switch on for a couple hours and my ewp ran it dead. It had to be jumped off but let the my car run for about 10mins and it was fine. Haven't had any problems letting the fans and pump run to cool the car in between rounds either. My car is a street car to and i drivers it to from the track and it's a 2 HR round trip. I let it sit for weeks sometimes though because it's not my daily and never had a problem. As long as you alternator puts out at least 13 volts lithium will work fine. That's my understanding anyway.

^^ that's my experience too. I did use a old battery charger and only took ten minutes to start the car.

Auto craft LFP-8 . I got it at Advance Auto. They have different ones but this was the lightest with the most cca. 500cca and 4.5 lbs. It's a little expensive it lists for $299 I think but I got the guy to come down to $200 I think. He price matched it to something. My optima battery went bad and this was cheaper than the optima and saved a lot of weight.
The LFP-7 is a lot cheaper $139 I think but only had 380cca but I think it would work. I wanted the 500cca .
