Default Track Rental was fun fun fun!!!!

Well My buddy Pete and I got there at 9:40AM.It was beatutiful but alas they didnt let us run for over an hr

The track was slick for the 1st few hrs and most guys were running off there normal times. The sun started to really heat up the track and it started to get HOT,I asked one of the others guys what his weather station was reading and he said +1753 Ft.

Well I knew right then and there I wasnt gonna set the world on fire but I really wanted to look at my tune,Make sure the trans shifted and the motor ran right.

I ran all runs with an OPEN CUTOUT but I DID NOT take the power steering belt off..

1st Pass +1754 DA
1.69
7.43
11.70
116.65 (did NOT lock verter)

I hot lapped and ran again DA???
1.67
7.39
7.42
11.68
116.97 (did NOT lock verter)

So I drove back and look at my data...
Car shifted right at 6400 on the nose but shortshifted (6200) on the 2nd shift.
I wasnt too upset because the KR was ZERO and the timing was pegged at 28/29 the whole run.

Only problem was it went into 4th just before the traps and I knew that wasnt good for the trans so I let it cool down and played with the shocks (Thanks Mikey for the suggestion)I rechecked my boots, set them at 15lbs on the nose and waited til the car cooled down.I knew I would have to run the car in 3rd gear as to NOT hit 4th again and was hoping that along with the track hooking better MIGHT get me in the 50's or poss. the 40's in the air?

I went out after about 2HRS of cool down (Had to eat) but I asked again what the DA was and the dragster driver said buddy its +1910DA

Well I figured I still got good data on my tune,It only needs the shift points dialed in and Nogo told me this might happen because I'm running 28's for street tires and 26in boots when I race the car.Its an EASY fix and we'll get her done this week.

Anywho I went out again...
I came out high on the Yank (GOOD MOVE)
2700rpm
1.55
7.34
11.52
117.75 (did NOT lock the verter)

Hot lapped
2700rpm
1.52
7.29
11.51
117.90 (did NOT lock the verter)

Last pass I hooked but got squirrley up top and lifted
1.56
7.31
11.70
103.33 SCARITY CAT

The SUPPOSIDE BAD MOTOR OF MINE RAN FLAWLESSLY (Hi Dave)
It had 40PSI at idle all day and 70PSI at 6400 RPM and the trans shifted like a rock....

Only excuses from me are the weather and I could use about 200 more rpm outta my Yank but 4200 flash is fine for now.I DROVE the car to and from my house,Changed tires and went home.

I have to fix the shift points and lose some weight.
I dont know what the car weighs but I think its over 3550lbs NO BS!!!

Other than that I;m happy, the cam is small the car idles great and runs perfect.

We'll see in the fall what she can do,again all I really cared about was IF the car made it down the track,I was safe and it didnt break.

It ALL worked out

Thanks Mikey for helping me w/the shock setting, the car really came around after your suggestions. It was real nice meeting everyone and thanks for the rental,We put one together in the fall

Couldn't you have just wrote up top that you didn't lock the converter. all that "(did NOT lock the verter)" stuff is a little much Anyway, nice times for a nice full weight (basically) car and not-so-stellar weather.

If you'll stall that Yank up a little more you'll see some 1.4s. 2700 isn't really that high for that converter, IMO. If the tires will hold the launch, bring it up juuuuuuuuust prior to overpowering the brakes and then back off 100-200 RPMs.

Maybe 10s this fall?

Well Coach I wanna weigh the car,Try and get another 100 to 150lbs out of it.Running the Hals loose up front (2) really helped me.I had the Comp rears set firm, also the car liked 14lbs in the tires, any less and it was squirrley.

I wanna get my shift points set at 6500 on BOTH shifts and rebleed the brakes,my pedal felt alitle light on psi.I wanna be able to stall the Yank up to 2900 to 3000 if possible?I might send it back and have it tweeked but not until I rebleed the brakes and get back to the track for some more testing. Its only dropping 900/1000 in between shifts which is perfect for me.

I figure (340lbs of me) in a 3250lb car is alot of weight,I MUST lose weight (100lbs) and get my car down to 3200 to 3150.If I can get the car down to 3400lbs which I think I can it'll run easy 11.30's in +1900 DA's with a MILD setup (S2 LS6 heads/224 cam).

I still wanna try a LSX/90 but I'm waiting on the GM intake and TB just to see how much it'll cost and if its better than the Comp stuff.I'm also gonna put a BIGGSIII in my car over the winter so I can really fine tune it.I'll still need edit to set the trans shifts up but thats no biggie.

My goal is to run 10's with THIS setup (Except changing the intake,tb) and then I'll be putting in a TH400 and getting serious with a big cammer setup or poss a 383 forged stroker?

See ya....
