Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the new 255/50r16 don't hook as good as the old. I've noticed that there is a extra half in groove in the middle. Do you think that is all the difference

I haven't seen them yet, only read about it on MT's website. Aren't they the same compound as before?

I ran the regular old 255/50/16 ET Streets and now have the SS in the same size. Both hooked good but my car only did 1.9x 60's. The old ET Streets seemed to hook a tiny bit better on unprepped surfaces. Now that my 60's are 1.7x the SS still work good.

The compound is the same (R2) but the additional grove is for better wet traction. That was the significant change.

The R is supposed to be a step up from the old ET Street but a little less street friendly. But I don't see a 16" size. Hoosier has a 255/50/16 DOT DR but doesn't look street friendly at all although they are lighter.

This is depressing. I need new DRs for street use and I loved the old ones(MTs). Have new Hoosiers for the track.

The SS are still good. They hook pretty similarly and they are safer in the rain.
