Default additional bars for 8.5 roll cage

I have a 8.5 MWC cage and was gonna add some rocker bars and a forward cross member.
I was looking at 4bangermustang's build and they sit very close to the floor

Do they have to be welded all the way around the tube?
I have a sfi 25.3b book and it only talks about adding gussets to the windshield/roof bar and main hoop if it is not practical to weld all the way around the tube

Always, weld all the way around. Any quality built car will be 100 pct.

That or do the cage in parts, or cut the roof off and do it that way. JW fab built the base of my cage first, notched it into the floor and it went in the base structure, while floor was cut up the inside was built and tacked, then the floor structure was dropped so the top could be welded up, then it was raised back up and the floor was welded in. He has pics on his worksite that show how he did it. Built the madman tq arm right into cage, built the reclocated lca mounts into the cage, etc, really did a knock out job.

Mine are slightly higher but barely. We still notched the floor bracket for the seat mounts like he did. Mine is like 95% welded around. we really couldn't see under there if we got it all. Tried using a mirror on a stick. Its as good as we could get it. my cage passed for NHRA 8.50 cert. Most Fbodies you see with rocker bars above the floor are only welded 95% around. Now on my Fathers car he chose to put the rocker bar under the floor and parts of the floor were cut out and it is welded fully before the floor sheet metal was welded back in. Then the rocker bar also classifies as a subframe connector because it extened to the rear lower control arm area and boxed that in and also went forward and welded to the front sub frame. This car was set up to be ready for 25.5 chassis cert later on down the road. its another option to think about.

i didnt think that they were welded all the way around, just wasnt sure if other people were leaving a little bit unwelded.
