Wrecked at the track

Wrecked at the track
Been teaching my daughter to run the car at the strip this year. Well, last Saturday night we had the experience that all of us try hard to avoid.
Tori was running the car. Rear end got loose at the track transition from concrete to ashphalt. She tried to correct with the steering, but with her inexperience she froze and did not get out of the gas. The ET Streets finally caught and sent her sideways off the track and into some hay bales.
She walked away with only minor bruises and cuts. Yes, there is a God!
The car got tagged on the right front bumper corner. Pushed the hood sideways, crushed the passanger upper rail and wheel well. Also, ran down the side taking the door and rear quarter. Right now it looks like a total, but I'm looking into rebuilding. I think the frame is OK, and if so, the worst will be cutting out the passenger side upper rail and wheel well and rewelding new parts in.
If anyone has interest in buying whole for parts, drop me a line and we can discuss.
Otherwise, I would appreciate any ideas that you have. Especially if you've done any similar rebuild work.
No 11's for me this year, but more then one has told me (and my daughter) to get back on the horse.
Thanks.

Re: Wrecked at the track
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I am glad everyone was ok. It sounds like a pretty minor hit to me. I have rebuilt two Camaro SS's in the last two years and they are pretty easy to fix. (Both were front hit) Send me some pics if you like and I can give you an idea on what it would cost. Let me know if you need any help.

I'm sorry to hear about that. However i'll say that this is exactly the reason I do not let anyone else drive my car at the track....ESPECIALLY girls. More times than not, and female is more prone to panic when the tires break loose causing a loss in control. No offense to you, hopefully your car is fixable and everyone is ok. Good luck...

I'm really sorry to hear Pat. It's great to hear that your daughter walked away unharmed! As hard as it may be to do when looking at the wrecked car, count your blessings that you still have your daughter and think of where to go with the car next. I bet it was a HUGE learning lesson for your daughter!
Let me know if I can help out.

Pat,
Best part is your daughter is OK. Cars can fixed or replaced. I really appreciate young people (kids) wanting to learn to drag race legally. My sons are young but want to learn to race none the less, fix the car and get her back on the horse as they say. Some lessons in life are harder than others and this one was pretty gentle.
From a Dad also.

I am glad your daughter is OK. Your daughter can not be replace, but the car can. The fourth generation cars are pretty fast and some are downright outrageous fast. Be very thankful your daugher is OK and yes, there is a GOD. I have a son and daughter and both want to drive my 99 SS down the track, but I have not let them because neither have any experience drag racing and I believe they need to start with something a little slower than the SS. We go as a family outing and have fun seeing how fast the car will go down the track. However, that is another story for our car. We worked and worked on it and at times we are very disappointed, because we have many mods on it and times don't seem to get faster. However, every now and then, everything comes together and car runs a respectable time. It may be fast local, but across the nation, just average. Anyway, it is fun as a family sport and I am glad that your daughter is OK. Best wishes.

Thanks to all for the uplifting words and the offers for help. My son and I are going to bring the car to the house today so we can have air tools to strip things off.
Trying to line up some help locally...someone with body repair experience. This car has been a hobby and learning experience for me. I guess the learning will not end with mechanical / electrical work.
I'll take some pictures and post them later.

Just glad to hear your daughter was okay.
I hope you both can have some fun repairing. I know me and my dad get just as much, if not more enjoyment out of working on my car than driving it. Be sure to post if anybody can help. Is the car camaro or formula?

Pat,
Iam very happy for you that your dauther is ok. It is like someome else said. The big man upstairs was watching over her. Cars can be replaced. Daughters cant. I have two daughters myself(11 & 2) The 11 year old wants to drive a jr dragster real bad. I still think that drag racen is good for kids. She will get her chance this summer.
If you need any parts for you Hot Rod, I may have some. Just let me know.
Good Luck with everything.
Get that girl back on that horse very soon!

Yikes. Glad your daugher is OK. Everybody has accidents/makes mistakes, Warren Johnson still blows motors sometimes, and Kenny Bernstein can still screw up on a burnout.

Re: Wrecked at the track
OK, we stripped off all the front end stuff (another family affair). The frame rails are bent (both sides), one of them about 4".
I decided not to bother to rebuild this one.
On the good side, I already have found someone who can help me strip the drivetrain out of the car. He has a shop and experience in dropping the engine out of the bottom of one of these.
OK, so besides selling the entire drivetrain (an option), any ideas on an easy place to drop in an LS1 and 4L60E? What about a v6 roller? Truck? Other?
Keep those ideas comming in.

I am glad your daughter us ok. When the whole thing happened it looked like it was in slow motion. If you want to get rid of anything shoot me an e-mail, I'll pass the word to the other guys at the track.

Hey Pat. Sorry to hear it man. Glad everyone is ok!. Now on to the ideas.
Hmmmm What about looking for a real high milage LS1! Some 98 with 200k on the speedo. Or possibly a decent Lt1/v6 car and do the swap into the other car? I dont know how hard that is. There is a truck who runs at centerville, ole chevy, maby 60's with an LS1 in it! Street&peformance here in arkansas specalizes in Swaps like that. Not the Street&performance electronics in NLR. There is also an All Camaro&firebird junkyard just off of Prothro junction.. Maby some of this wll help.... If you need anything, help...parts for sale...bs session..whatever. My98Z28@centurytel.net
FWIW: Dane (the guy who bought Leo's car) His GF's Dad is a Body man., Rebuilds totaled cars and resells them. Does pretty good work also.
